I've never worked with much in the way of server equipment, but was considering using this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817121908) to cool an HD and free up the cage. Will I notice any performance drop using this on my primary OS/gaming drive?

It is unlikely you would see any noticeable performance difference due to the extra connections. You don't really need a mobile rack if all you want to do is mount and cool a hard drive in a 5" bay. They make specific parts for that which would be cheaper and more effective.

yeah if you can find it on newegg, get the thermaltake I-cage. It houses 3 hard drives in 3 5.25" bays. I use it, has good cooling and super easy to install. i dunno about stock fan though i changed it off for one i bought.

Only reason that I was looking at the rack to go along with my server case is that it might very well become a server in the near future. So wanted to have a couple in there for when that happens.

Thanks for the replies, guys!
