View Full Version : Rosetta runs faster on Xeon 500 than Athlon MP 2800
Hi, I've got 2 systems in my dorm right now:
Dual Athlon MP 2800 / 128k 512k cache
Quad Xeon 500 / 2mb cache
My question is, why does it take less time for a single xeon cpu to finish a wu compared to a single mp cpu?
Also, why does the wu done by the xeon receive alot less credit than the one done by the mp?
here are a few links:

athlon: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=179249&offset=100

on the dually board.... do you have 2 CPU's? Or just one?
As for the xeon, is it HT? P3 Xeon or P4 (i can't tell the difference just by calling it "xeon 500")?
How many copies of BOINC are you running at once on each if you have 2 AXP's or HT on that Xeon?
Anything could be affecting it.... but I dont' know enough about BOINC to diagnose beyond the bare basics.

The dualie board has 2 cpus, athlon mp 2800+
The xeons are P3 xeons, no hyperthreading
both have sse and mmx instruction sets
The dualie is running 1 boinc client with 2 projects running
The quad is running 1 boinc client with 4 projects running

The Athlons are just crunching a larger WU. A WU on the Athlon is worth ~70 credits and takes 15k seconds to complete. The Xeon’s WUs is ~10 and take 10k seconds to complete.
Everything looks fine. Whats the RAC on both rigs?
RAC = Recent Average Credit, it is supposed to show you the speed of crunching. You can see it on the list of your computers right next to total credit.
