I finally got my system!
Take a look:
AMD XP 1600+
MSI MB with VIA k266a chipset + RAID
MSI GeForce2 Titanium 64 Mb, + Video IN!!
Surfnet v92 Modem (I know I know...)
512 Mb KingMax 2400, 300Mhz Ram...haven't set it up for that speed yet, though...
and a bunch of other goodies...
In setting up, the MSI DBracket helped a lot and generally it was a smooth set up...
except....
well, it was my first time using the thermal greese...i bought this thermaltake volcano fan...with copper base...but i had no idea how much greese i should put on it! the guy told me not to put much...anywayzz...i had the case open and well, installed XP and everything was sooooo nice!!
the temp i had was 39 degrees when idle....
then i screwed the case back, and i left to buy something.
p.s. my case fits in a tight desk...i hate it...but i am stuck with it...
when i came back, the temp was 60, or even more..!!
i quickly turned it off and opened the case and then it was normal again. what is the problem?? i have two fans in front, but no fan at the back of the case...i forgot to buy! :(
but i did buy a hard disk cooler, which sucks the air from the 5 1/2" bay in the case.
tips guys! tips!! i had never even thought about cooling!!
so gimme your newbie tips plz!
and...should the fan make so much noise?!?!? it's way too noisy...it's about 7xxx rpm...
hmmm...i got a lot more to tell, but later!
thanks!

Hi

I think you have just answered your problem & that is air flow the first thing you must do is fit a rear exhaust fan.

Try & find a place for your system so that you can get some air flowing round that as well.

Milad,

I agree with Acko, A rear mounted exhaust fan is needed as it seems your air is entering in the front from your two Intake fans and is just circulating in your case.

You mentioned your case is a tight fit under your desk, A friend of mine had a similaiar situation and what we did was cut a small hole in the back of his desk and ran his exhaust fan via a Dryer vent, Similiar to this but we only used about 8 inches of tubing
http://www.nwlink.com/~pkrogh/dryerboxpic2.jpg

ONLY the tubing was used not the object on the left.

Now his temps in his pc are within a good temperature range and the project only took about an hour and was less than $10

thanx guys...that is it then, i guess.
i will buy one, or maybe two fans tomorrow.
amm...my desk is not THAT packed! hehe!
there is a big opening at the back...
but the desk is kinda stuck to the wall behind it.
anyway, i see if i can move the desk or something...
ammm...one thing is that...what is the normal temp for AMD XP, anyone knows? i heard it is 30% cooler than t-bird...
thanks again.

My XP1600+ is certainly running cooler than my old 1000 Mhz Athlon.
I`d say about 6C in my situation & considering it`s the equivalent to 1400 Mhz I`m well pleased.

Alright then..
But for me, as a new AMD user, that is HOT!
anyways...about the volcano fan? Is it supposed to be that noisy?!?!
Can i do anything about it??
What if I get a fan with less RPM?? now it is about 7xxx

and...is that PC Alert software that comes with my MSI MB accurate?
how come it did not alert me when the temp was higher than 60, the other time?!

yup, the fan is sposed to be that loud, if you get a lower rpm fan the temp will be much higher......if you want low noise buy a Millenium Glaciator....

Hi again milad-sm

Hot has to be temps over 50C.

Scrap the noisy 7000rpm fan & try a Y.S. Tech fan (FD1281257B-2N) it has 45 CFM @ 3000rpm @ 34 dBA so its powerful @ quiet compared to the fan your using.

Was your PC Alert set to a higher default than 60C or was it even enabled at all?
