Doing the installation of W2k on the new AMD setup and I get the BSOD. Wouldn't boot from CD either. Paging error, NTOS kernel crash, and it won't boot! Making Floppy recovery disks from my backup machine but it is a pain.

I think loading Leadtek's Winfox utility after the vid driver killed it but I am not sure. Starting over.

I believe that the WinFox utility is the tweaker for the GF2MX400. Allows overclocking on the vid card. I never got to find out. :)

I'm using the coolbits registry hack. Opens the OC tab in the card properties screen.

Tried Powerstrip etc, but coolbits is just fine.

This is the error:

"***STOP: 0x00000050 (0x81492b10, 0x00000000, 0x804b24d3, 0x00000002)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

*** Adress 804B24D3 base at 80400000, DateStamp 39760637 - ntoskrnl.exe

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows 2000 updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Refer to your Getting Started manual for more information on troubleshooting Stop errors."

Safe mode isn't an option, same BSOD. Booting from floppy recovery disks gives me ntkrnl.dll error at the same point.

Any suggestions?

Overclocking at all m8?? These are the causes of this error :

Bug check 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM).

Another common cause is the installation of a bug-ridden system service.

Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.

I got the error right after installing the WinFox utility upon restart.

The system is now at defaults, 10x100, default voltage, etc.

I can try to swap out a memory stick at a time, but it is passing boot memory check just fine. I can also try a different video card.

I'll keep you updated.

New error:

"STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\systemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll"

What causes this one? I was trying to boot from the floppy recovery disks this time.

If you receive this error message, the file listed along with the error is corrupted m8.......

I am finally able to get to the W2k Setup. I think I'll just nuke it and start over. *SIGH*

Just wondering: Are you installing on a clean format or over the top of an existing OS? I know, stupid question. But I got kernel errors trying to install ME over the top instead of clean.

Clean install. Just finished format-install, reinstalled everything ok, then installed WinFox1.0 for my Leadtek Vid Card and the errors are back. *SIGH*

Time to do it again.

One (more) clean install later, and she's running like a champ.

Leadtek's Winfox utility does NOT like either Win2K, the AMD cpu, or the ALi chipset.

Oh well. Lesson learned. Now to complete the 5GB update to Half-Life...

I just installed Win2K Pro today. I was running Win XP. Thought I'd give Win 2K a try. I like it much better then XP. It's much faster. Installs much quicker as well. Just hope it's as comatible with games as XP was. I do have SP2 installed so that should help.

At least you got it working again. That's the same reason I re-installed 2000 (corrupted NTKRNL file)

Now got IE6 and Opera running under 2000 as well

Violator is pretty smart at this stuff. Saved my sorry @$$ more times than I care to mention when my PC screwed up. (he lives just round the corner from me!)

Seems like you went through alot of work m8.. :)

So what are you using now?
Why not use another program to overclock like NVMAX?

Not using anything yet...this is still the main house computer and I am leery of playing with it until the File/app/print server gets completed and I can load the family profiles onto it.

Running peer-to-peer right now and reloading all the software (yeah, I know "use ghost"-I needed to kill some legacy drivers for a creative sbLive and Creative Vid card) and copying profiles/local settings is a beeiiatch. Going to convert to client-server soon for the home network.

I just need a case-monitor-KB for my nice little dual slot-1 mobo. *sigh*.

I will probably get around to playing with the Detonator drivers and the coolbits hack a little later on, just not right now.

I had that stop screen when I switched from win98se to win2k. I had to reinstall windows 4 times before I figured out it was the driver for my logitech ifeel mouse. I tried dl-ing newer drivers from the logitech site, but it did it again. I guess the little bumps you get with the ifeel don't like win2k. That stupid screen made me mad for 2 days. Dumb logitech.
