If I borrow my friend's WoW CDs, can I just buy an account and start playing? Or is there a CD Key that you have to use that can only be used for one account?

Yes you can borrow the cd's to start your own account. :)
No you can't....I tried this..Before you're even allowed to make a account thats paying you need a cd-key. So you need to buy the game.

I thought the cd key was only needed for "install", not for the actual account, not sure, been a while since I played.
When I was playing my girlfriend played on one computer and I on the other (same house), but we had different accounts, same cd's to install. Maybe they changed it, don't know.
If I remember correctly to register an account you need a valid CD Key. So you need to have bought a copy of the game first before you can start playing. The CD Key also gives you your first month.

For online games (in general), you need to buy a copy of the game for each account. WoW is no exception, each account requires a unique CD key from the purchased box.

yeah you need the key. Each cd key can only be tied to one account.

I thought that was the case, wasn't sure about now though. I also remember friends would borrow the cd's just for install, because at the time you could get a free month if you sign up for an account.

the key attaches to the account. Installing the game requires no cd key or account but once you want to play, it requires your own account. The only thing the cd key does it activate a new account.
Can you still do trials for WoW with someone else's cd? And does this in turn save you from having to buy a full copy? (meaning, if you do a trial from someone's cd, you don't have to pay $40+$15 or w/e per month, just $15/month) My brother has it, and I wanted to try the trial and maybe start playing, and if I could save $40 that way, all the better.

you need to have a valid trial cd-key. i have given both of mine away, but if your bro still has one it will work. however, to turn the trial account into a full acount you need to enter a valid new cd-key

I am a very big WoW player and I would reccommend just going to anywhere in the city or online a buying it. Check www.worldofwarcraft.com for some rebates which i got my game for 19.95 USD. BTW Paladins and Shamans are the way to go. Human Paladin and Tauren Shaman are my recommendation. But I am pretty sure you can only play the account until those ten days are up. I am sure that Blizzard does not think you will get that far in ten days. P.S. Sorry for the length lol

I just remembered when I bought WoW I got home and looked in the box and there were no CD's. I was pretty mad but I went right back to the store and they said just go grab another one. I brought that to the customer service counter and the cashier opened it and guess what, none in that box either. There was one copy left and luckily it had them in it. I guess ppl were borrowing a friends with the 15 day free trial and then stealing the CD's with the key out of the boxes. I hate thieves.
