I have a AMD T-Bird that is 1.4 Ghz. I want to overclock but I am wondering what is the Max Voltage that it can take. Currently it is at 1.79 V. CAn you guys give me some modest numbers, I dont want a TOO extreme number but a range would be greatly appreciated.

Well the 20% rule is widely accepted so since the default voltage of a 1.4 is 1.75v you can go up to 2.05v without many worries but of course you will need to have very good cooling to handle that voltage.

I will say it again you will need very good cooling to handle a 20% voltage increase.

Remember overclocking voids all your warranties on your hardware so dont overclock unless you are prepared to buy new stuff.

It is actually 15%
I would say a 1.4 can handel high voltage very well
but it is critical for very effective cooling.
I have seen them go to 2.3 but do not go higher than that.
I have no clue how he got to 2.3 volts?

Thanks a lot guys. I think that this 15-20 % rule is good advice for newbies like me. I increased the volatage by 0.025 and now am running my 1.4 at 1.54!! Thanks again.

It truly depends on the chip. Some chips won't be stable around 50c, some will! I increased my vcore to 2.07-2.1, and it runs around 48c under full load. Welcome!:)

Am running at 2.2 volts with H2O. Have the board set up to go to 2.35 volts. 47c under full load. Am looking for better cooling. Dialing in the water cooling before moving on.

The most "Normal Geeks" would go is 2v but dont push
it. Like I sayed, There have been people go up to 2.3 with
a 1400 but not many sucessfully went past that anount of volts.

Overclocker? Normal? Must see if these are synonomous (sp) at first chance. He is correct however in stating that it is the abnormal one that goes much beyond this. Changed water cooling around today and am able to now run 1748 at a tested 47c (full load for 12 hours). Definate improvement of 6c. Am going to let the new heat sink run in the bath for a day or so and then try it out. Present stable voltage 2.25. Above this, regardless of the voltage, the board is unstable at this time.
