View Full Version : crushed dust cap?
well apparently i can't trust these cats with anything anymore :eh?:
i had my 2 8" subs inside, facing up, and i came home today to one having the cone mostly crushed in.
i dont...think it sounds any different..is that a way i can fix this, is there any problems with this..besides it's very ugly..

try a vacume cleaner, like use the hose on the dustcap. should work pretty good, if that dont work u could always jusy buy new dustcaps ;)

it shouldnt effect sound, but never heard of that vaccum trick, see if it works
and i doubt it would be worth the trouble of buying a newdustcap, because by the way it sounds since it was that easy to bust in the dustcap, the speaker wouldnt be worth the trouble, but it could be i dont know what it is
if your quick, super glue on the tip of a toothpick and pull it up by the center
also try pulling it out with tape. If by chance the pole piece on the back of the sub is vented you may be able to poke your finger (or a non sharp object) through there and push the dust cap back out.

all good ideas, never thought about them
i think it's vented, and a vacuum should fit well..hmm, too bad im busy today

i borrow my mom's sewing kit, and use a super thin needle to make a hole and pull it out. after that, i just cover it up with a little dark colored epoxy.

a vacuum by itself probably won't seal well enough to do it. If you had some sort of rubber skirt or something to form a seal though, then yeah that might work. Most of the ideas suggested should work.

I have to pull out the caps on my 15" woofers occasionally thanks to an overly-curious ferret ... I tend to go with the 'pull-out' idea either with duct tape or low-grade home cement like elmer's attached to a pen-cap.
the vaccuum actually worked, i just had to kind of seal it with my hand and it eventually pulled it out
you can tell it was crushed though, morale of the story..
take care of your speakers
