View Full Version : Gf2mx Oc...?

Just recently decided to attempt to OC my GF2MX using NVMAX...I am curious as to why the thing shows Core @ 20294Mhz and the Memory @ 20294Mhz??? Seems odd that they would both be the exact same speed...It runs just fine at these settings, but will not adjust at all in either direction...resets itself every time I try...
Have had no problems so far, and was wondering if this is correct and whether everything is OK...seems to be...Confused...

The card is an I/O Magic GF2MX 32 with active cooling on the chip...Need some input here...Thanks in advance...:D

dago, there r several other threads relating the same problem (ppl have often post similar ones). this common issue concerns all MXs running with W98 and detXPs. you wont be able to overclock it with any driver-dependant software as nvmax. if you fit this class (MX+W98+detXP) powerstrip is perhaps the only way to go.

I´m having the same problem here.

I´ve noticed that it started when I installed the Detonators XP. With the Detonators "non-XP" it worked fine. It also does the same thing with coolbits, so I tried PowerStrip because it´s driver independent.

Now I can overclock the card, but my scores are about 65% lower than non-overclocked.

3DMark2001
Before overclock : 981
After overclock : 342

What a sh*t.

I´m only using the Dets XP because it´s still faster than the older ones, even when they were overclocked.

I´m still trying to figure this out.

Tudo bem comigo.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info...Just now getting my rig back to normal. Had a helluva time getting the thing straightened out...Uninstalled NvMax and couldn't get anything to work right for awhile there...no net, no 3DMk2K, etc. Finally uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the 12.41's...still no go...Reinstalled the 21.43's and had some luck with 3DMk2K, but still wouldn't go on the net...finally removed and reinstalled the Juno program and all is well. Needless to say, I won't be doing any more OC'ing on that GF2MX in the near future...it works and that's good enough for now...Whew!

Thanks again for the replies, you kept things at an informed and therefore calm footing...:D :D :D

Its driver issues.. You'll need to get the lastest driver before the Denator XP to overclock your card..

I guess you can say you can keep your card the way it is if you don't really care about a lil performance ehhe

If I really cared about performance, I guess I'd have to get rid of the limited MX card and get into something better...Can't afford it right now, so for the moment it'll have to do. (Works great for the games I play and guess that ain't bad after all...GF3 one of these old days...) Next I guess I'll have to OC the Athlon...:D

No need to go back to pre-DetXP drivers, just get the newer drivers. I think 21.85 fixed the problem, it was a driver issue.
22.50 gave my MX 300 points extra to 3DMark2k1, so those are very good drivers. No trouble OC'ing either.

Beginning to think that there is something very wrong here...tried the 21.81's, 21.83's, 22.50's and 22.80's...they all lockup or crash back to desktop when running 3DMk2K1...oddly, everything else is working fine, but it won't benchmark past the 4th section...I even tried going back to the 12.41's and it still crashes back to desktop, locks up or reboots all by itself...HELP!!! :( :( :(

Well, it's official...the GF2MX is screwed...went to the trouble of reformatting as a last resort and can't get the 3DMk2K1 to run at all...still locks up or crashes to desktop in 4th phase of test...I guess the card is just shot...what a shame. It all started out with my trying to use NvMax to OC the card...somehow it got damaged and now I am generally humped as far as video goes...it will still work for general use, but craps out on any intense gaming apps...Guess now I have a good excuse to get a GF2 GTS or PRO...Damn, damn, damn...

And so my first OC attempt ends in tragedy...s**t!!!
Did manage a mild OC on the Athlon tho, and hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the arse...:D

how r your AGP settings doing dago?

AGP 4X enabled?
fastwrites?
sideband addressing?
aperture size?

DAGO

Hey Otto...4X enabled, fast writes disabled, 128 AGP aperture...I tried everything I could think of...no dice...Sideband addressing?? Not sure on that one...whathe???

The Detonator Drivers(21.81/21.83) never worked properly with my MX, would lock up in games but ran 3DMark2001:confused:, but they did allow me to O/C with Powerstrip 3.03 Build 215. I use the 12.41s with Powerstrip & everything is fine a little slower but stable. The one thing I noticed is that when my AGP aperture size is above 64Mb 3DMark2001 will not run & throw me back to the desktop.

Thanks for the input Sonny, I'm about to give up here...Tried to adjust various settings but no luck so far...My Sisoft Sandra scores are great, but it still refuses to run 3DMk2K1 past part 4...I am about at the point where I don't give a damn...It still runs my Flight Sims and Giants just fine, so whathehey??? It just really bugs me that it worked fine before trying to OC with NvMax and I suspect that was where it got fouled up, how I have no idea...
This is really frustrating...to say the least...Thanks fo the help...

Dago have you tried to get the lastest drivers before the Denators XP ..

It is concluded that the MX has problems with the .80 Denator series.

i had the same problem with 3dmark2k (not 2k1) and it was the AGP 4X. i could run all my games but it would ever crash to the desktop when running the benchmark. once i set AGP to 2x the problem disappeared. then i just decided keeping it in 4x and not run 3dmark anymore. try setting AGP to 2x dago, it might help.

Still plinking away at this problem...presently set on AGP 4X, but will try it at 2X again...tempermental beast. After format, loaded stock drivers (6.32?)...no go...uninstalled them and loaded the most recent non-XP's (12.41's)...still no go and that's where it is at now...I'll keep prodding it to see the outcome...More later...
(Chambering yet another rnd, he takes aim...)

dago is it possible this to be a heat issue? how is your case inside temp and the cards cooling system?
u said it isnt overclocked anymore right?

Well, slap me silly...you hit the nail on the head oTTO...HEAT...the damm cheapo chip fan is dead, dead, dead...Damn. Never really expected the chip fan would die at the tender age of 5 months. I have the case side off because of a cheapo cpu fan, and never imagined that it was a cooling issue...until I actually reached in and TOUCHED the card at the back of the chip...WOWOW.

Thanks a million guys, FINALLY figured it out...BIG SMILE...:D :D :D
