The Aussies are pulling out to a nice lead.
Man, I wish I could afford more. A year ago, I could've...
We need someone that can get an institution size farm. I know there have been some proposals, and some problems, but we need to do something.
For now, leave your 'puters on 24/7, please!
lol this race is making me paranoid...always checking me task manager to see what programs i can kill for more speed
i feel guilty whenever i start playing games...
will, the thing to do is to make your friends feel guilty so that they decide to join the team. :D
How is Norgs doing it with only 2 processors?

Now THAT is a good question....There are no machines that I know of made today, that can also run these clients, that can put out that kind of work.
Unless he's running the Linux client on some kind of huge UNIX machine, if that's possible.
Anyone else have thoughts ???

I hear you brother ! All machines here are on 24/7.
We need a large farm in the worst way. If ANYONE has ideas on how to help simon get his machines to return work, please post it. He set up tunneling to get the work, but can't return it. I'm not sure of the size of the farm, but it definitely would help.
I have also had some PM dialog with a new folder trying to convince his lab admins to allow him to install on some university machines. It looks like a 50-50 shot, and he'll announce it when / if he is successful (he didn't want to get hopes up).
Someone needs to quit their job right now and go to work wherever there are many PCs that they can set up for folding...:D :D :D
He could have installed it on a couple of machines and then made a copy of one of the client folders and used that to copy and paste a working copy on each machine. It would be faster that way, but it would also give him just one ID number across all of the machines. With only one ID number the stats would only show one machine.
All I can say,
FOLD ON!!!
i'm all for getting wasted. got a 12 pack of beer in the fridge. hehe.

I here ya...I feel guilty for letting my nephew use my system to play LAN games of Delta Force 2.
It'll be next Tuesday before I'll get the chance to make my pitch for school systems celeron 700's....just hope they haven't taken vacation for Thanksgiving as that could delay it further.
BTW I imagine that it'll be necessary to be able to run the client so that it doesn't really show...out of site/out of mind is especially important when dealing with curious kids in some of these schools.

I started a thread over on OC.au about their monster producer Norgs to see what on earth he's running to produce so much, but no anwer so far, but the thread is very active. Anyway I've learn that Doc is planning to get 20 1 ghz durons setup folding "soon" dunno if they are or not yet, as the thread he mentioned it was dated 11/7/01 . We NEED TO RETAIN EVERYONE WHO JOINS! We're falling farther and farther behind everyday now and they'll be untouchable if it continues. At this point I'd be willing to steal some CPU cycles without permission, except I can't afford to get into trouble. It was SOO nice when we were #1...we can still do it, but with our current dedicated Folders. Bottom line is we need more processors folding, and we need to RETAIN everyone who joins our team.
BTW NORGS has produce 560 units TODAY...

OK, Norg (Trevor) I've configure my fair share of proxies and firewalls, how can WE [H]elp you fold?

I dont think there is much hope. I have almost given up. It would be nice to be pumping again, but until V2.0 i cant see me fold a whole lot again.
It seems there is 900 machines just wasted here....doing nothing.
This was from a post in April of this year over at [H]
We have been steadily adding power but it's not fair to compare us to them at the moment. When you have someone like that join your team it's an immediate boost in production that will take some time to match unless someone like that joins our team. I think he was looking for a good reason to join them for some time now anyway. We can build up to that kind of production but it takes more time to ask for help and wait for someone to decide to help than it does for one guy to install a client, move over 3 feet, install another client, move over 3 feet, etc. until he installed it on a couple of hunfred boxes in a few hours time. He may have moved that whole farm over in less time than it took some of our members get the client working correctly.
Another thing to keep in mind. It's about getting people to help. I assume that when the dust clears we'll see a total retention rate of somewhere in the neighborhood of 30% which means that roughly 70% of the people that start will stop. That is the stat from 1.0 and from GAH and a couple of other DC programs. It varied from team to team but it's pretty close. The retention rate would be higher if the servers did quit working everytime a bunch of new people decide to give it a try. All I am saying is that we just need to work the numbers. We know that a certain percentage will drop out so we just need to keep asking for more help to get where we need to be. :)
We need to make a post in the GD Folding thread at least once per day maybe twice per day to keep it active in the "Read New Posts" even if it's just a post about Folding in the news or an update on how the team is doing. That really does seem to help.

anyone hear on this yet? I'm just curious.

He could have some high performance system with multiple
processors that are only listed as 1 processor or such on
the stanford web-site?
It's probably just 100-400 machines with the same User ID.
I assume that he installed it the regular way on one or two machines and then decided that it would be easier to simply copy the whole Folding@Home directory to each new machine from there on. It would save a bunch of time in setting up that many boxes and it would appear to the server to be only one processor.

Norgs is an administrator at an australian university. He can potentially have 900 computers folding, but has said that it's not likely to ever happen for some reason. I'm guessing some are either too old or to important to fold on.

Maybe there is something I could do with my 1600Mhz monster celery? I am not part of any team yet? I am getting my electricity for free, might as well put it too good use. They are using this info for good use right:D
1.2 celery @ 1.6GHz
ABIT ST6
256mb ram
May go freon cooled H2O soon also.

They are putting the info to good use. We are currently working on the Alzheimer proteins, but we are also helping to provide results for a system that will allow further research in many other projects. IBM, NASA, and Intel have shown interest in this project because of its value to medical science. This is cutting edge stuff. :D Also....the results of the project and the data gathered will be openly published on the web and freely available to researchers.

We need all the power we can get:)
Here is an idea for retaining some of the new people. How about some kind of a congratualatory(sp?) thread in this forumn for passing certain wu or point marks? Say 25pts, 50pts, 100pts? The top guys usually get press with no problem. Maybe a little encouragement for the starters to keep folding. Just a thought.

Right now I am doing iterations at .135 sec under prime95 with 100mb allowed.
Ram is at 133 cas222-5/7. I want to start folding. I will search for what I got to do.

Sounds great! :)
Should not be hard to set up. If you have problems, post in the forum or check out www.overclockers.ws for an FAQ, etc.
Fold On !
