Running my tbird 1.2@1.0 (yeah.. underclkd)
Idle temp around 66c, load 70c+ with room temp around 35c.
So, if asus teperature monitor putz on around 8c.. it would be 58c idle, 62+c under load..
Using a volcano6 cu 5000rpm..
2 80mm fans, one in front trowing "cold" air in, and one in the back trowing really hot air out.. + psu fan..
I think my tbird core had i tiny scratch... Could that be causing this heat problem?
thanks
Don't worry taco bell does it to everybody!!!!
that is way to hot. Reseat your heatsink with some arctic silver to see if that helps. It could be the cpu. hope this helps.
I dont think that the scrach is involved.
Try reaseating your HS like stated above & use artic silver.
Have you checked the volts, make sure they are where they
should be. (1.75V)
I've got a couple of ASUS boards including an A7V133, and am well aware of the inaccurate readings of the ASUS Probe. I also have a 1.2G T-BIRD and even when overclocked TO 1470MHz (140*8.5) on that A7V133 the temperatures rarely go beyond the "lower" 60C's under full load with CPU usage at 100%.
I would suggest that you look for a problem with airflow within the case or the installation of the hsf. Even I would say that this is way too high.

hate to but in but...
i have a 1.4ghz on a asus a7a266 and in the bios mine says its set at 1.75 yet in asus probe and MBM5 is says the vcore is 1.824. any clue why?
I use the same HSF on my 1.4 T-bird and I'm running it at 1.6Ghz.
My max temp when looping the Sandra CPU tests is 52C in a 25C ambient.
Even allowing for the your much higher ambient (jeez, that's an uncomfortably hot!) your temp are too high for the speed you're running.
Make sure your case fans are not restricted by weedy ventilation holes. I cut away the perferations behind my rear fan (and replaced with a finger guard) and got a dramatic increase in airflow.
I also found the front fan was making things worse by 2C. I enlarged (and increased the number) of the bottom front ventilation holes. I use a single rear 80mm (39.5CFM, Panaflo) fan.
This produces the best cooling, with minimal noise, for my midi case.
Ok, I'm running on an a7a266 with a 1.4@1575.5+ today and my running temp with a volcano6 cu+ is 49 using CPUCool as a monitoring tool. Under full load with Seti CLC running high priority.
My voltage is also a LITTLE high, I have it set to 1.75 and all the monitoring of it show it at 1.79. I personally think the motherboard does it on purpose. I also knowtice that it ups your bus speed a little more then you set it at. I set for 137 and all monitoring programs show it at 137.67.
It's a weird board. :) Make sure you up to the latest 1010.001 beta bios I found it helped with a bit of the temp problems I was having! My temps actually seem to stabalize now! I have rev 1.10 of the mobo.
Oh, BTW make sure you have the purformance boosting option disabled in the bios same page as RAM setings right under them. Turned off. It seems to add a little juice and ups the FSB a little more then the board already does. It adds these changes just as windows is loading. I had some trouble with that when it was turned on! Just a thought.
oh, ignore sig, I need to modify it again. Wrong temps and speed!

where would one get this beta bios from??
*smacks self in forehead and clicks the link that says beta bios*
:D
but i still dont see v1010 ....

BAD REGULATION!!!
You power supply or mobo is not regulating the power well!!!
If you want to get to the exact recommended volts you will
want to set the volts a little down, Untill your mobo states it
is at target.
...Or a new power supply/mobo
What power supply are you using?
What does it say in the bios for 3+ & 5+ & 12+ ?

its a 350 i believe, i stole it out of one of my old cases a while back, for my new comp.

I've cheked the hsf and it's well seated.. and i've put ASII...
I'll get a temp probe to measure more accurately...
I'm using Hmonitor and right now it's 57c.. ambient around 30c
Yes, here in brazil is very hot :)
Inside bios it is every thing right.. vcore 1.75, fsb 133..
In Hmonitor it says that the vcore is 1.82.. don't know why...
But i really think it's because od the scratch.. i have used this same cpu with my fop38 and the temps were around 53c under load.

It says 1.82 volts because that is your REAL VOLTS!!!
Try decreasing your volts untill the REAL volts get around 1.75.
I know it sounds funny, but 1.82 is the volts your chip is getting,
even though you selected 1.75V.
ok here is the link to the latest bios!
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Socket_A/ALI_Chipset/ALI_Magik_1/A7A266
As for the voltage thing! Well there is no way that I know of to turn the voltage below the default 1.75 setting that the bios pops up! Anyone have any ideas about this! I've heard of a few bioses that let you go below the min but not this one! I can go up in bios but not down....hmmm...let me check if I can drop it in jumper mode.
BRB! hmm......nope motherboard manual says nothing on voltage changes via jumper setting. Bummer. Well time to check the web page. ha, right!

Ok, i'll try that now.. post results later..
