I just got my Swiftech the other day and was wondering if I should use a shim with it.

shims are great and should be used all the time, it is a small investment to save an expensive cpu

I disagree totally as Shims only create a false sence of security and as such I believe that less care can be taken when fitting heatsinks if using shims, its also worth remembering that there is NO factual evidence that using a shim will save a CPU. However there is evidence that a shim effects CPU tempratures and that metallic shims can cross CPU bridges on AMD cpu's and damage them.
If shims were such a good idea or required why are heatsink producers not shipping them with the products or selling them, and why do CPU producers not reccomend them?.. imho the main advantage of a shim is that you can sleep at night in the comfort of knowing that your cash is supporting the familys of shim producers everywhere

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and put it on lastnight about a half an hour after posting this. I think I was like the only guy on here last night and I got bored so I put it on.
