View Full Version : i got GR:AW today

got it from a friend who owns a game shop (same one that i got FEAR 10 days early :D).

well, i didnt get past the first level cos i cant run it!! i mean my system is hardly slow, i run bf2 (1280x1024 all medium with 2xAA) and get average 70FPS, i can run FEAR at all high 1024x768 and get 50fps and cs on full everything.

put graw on 1024x768, everything LOW and no AA or dynamic light and i get max 20fps, when enemys come on screen i get about 3fps. this sucks.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

I've had the demo running the last few dayz and It rungs just fine with medium settings and better than F.E.A.R.

I think i'm gonna pic up when i comes out here in Germany :)

I know the demo is very demanding. They say at least a 2GHz P4 and 1gig memory and a GeForce 6 or 7.

I think that's a little ridiculous. Programmers can't come up with something that runs decently on a $400 card? I mean, what's everbody without an awesome graphics card doing?

This game is very good, but needs a patch. When I was playing it on my 7900gtx the average FPS was 40 and sometimes it'd get in the 50s but never reached 60 (during that benchmark at least).

My 7800gtx stays between 25-30 usually, but sometimes gets lower.

So yeah, this game needs a patch. The problem is, I think, that there is SO MUCH geometry (buildings, plants, cars = mucho polygons) that it's very demanding. DirectX10 is supposed to be able to handle a lot more geometry (like Kameo, where there are 5000 characters on screen, and the developers said they'd up it to 7-10,000 later on. By the way, the GPU of the Xbox360 has some "DX10" capabilities, so I assume that's why). Two of the lead guys at ATI were on "On the Spot" on Gamespot this past thursday and one of them mentioned DX10 being able to handle a lot more charactesr, etc. They had over 20,000 characters on screen at once walking around and the things didn't crash, though it was chugging a lil' bit, but it handled 10,000 characters on screen just fine!

So yeah, this game is BIG game due to the big cities. I'm pretty sure if they'd cut down on the size of the cities it'd run A LOT smoother.

Well I got it yesterday also. Not a single issue here. Runs the same if not better then the demo. Its locked in at roughly 30FPS for most gameplay. I did get 50-70's for that brief fall in the first few min. I run 1400x800 (i think thats what it is ingame its the max resolution it gives me in there) with all the settings on high (changed all medium to high in the settings file).

CONSPIRACT THEORY: Hardware Mfgs are under the covers with the software programmers, thus VERY popular game=insane system requirements. I'll bet if a team of programmers WITHOUT an agenda got a hold of this then it would run fine on a 1.5ghz Athlon or P4, 512MB RAM, and a 6200 or x300 GPU with nearly all the pretties turned on as well.

I see that the original poster has an athlon XP, wich can contribute VERY heavily to the lack of performance. Sadly, about all you can do is upgrade. Sorry man!

Demo runs fine on my pc too only problem im getting is the games is so damn hard, i play through the 360 game easy. This demo i cant get to the main area every time i get closer i die, and the team dont help they just run out and let them kill them lol. maybe its a nvidia card bug in the game, the only ppl that are having the probs as far as i can see is nvidia users, the demo shows a ati screen when u load it so it must be that.

2 of my friends say they can't run the game properly even at 800x600 with everything at min .. infact changing from high to low doesnt even makes that much of a difference in fps ( noting from FRAPS ) both of them are using nvidia cards ( 7800gs and 6800 Ultra )

GRAW will run around 30-40fps w/ a 7-series card on average with the correct settings, and preferrably 2gb of RAM so you can change the "texture managed" options in the XML file.

Janus67
05-03-06, 10:32 PM
i find the same thing, when running at 1280x1024 with settings on medium and low dynamic shadows and 4x AF. 2gb of ram etc.

Sjaak
05-04-06, 03:23 AM
1280 1024 med detail, no FSAA, runs fine here (i'd guess 40 - 50 FPS, slight visible lag when hostiles appear) That is, on a dothan 2.6 2GB bh5 and x800XT.

It’s actually a topic I have been putting some thought in. As of late nvidia has been putting a ton of energy with packing clocks with pipes. Pretty strait forward right? While in the camp on the side of the pond, we have ATI that has been writing each and every part of the their software engine with precision in mind, not just raw pipes and clock speeds in mind. Yes ATI has notoriously ran higher clocked cores. But for everything software aspect, ATI has a custom coded and written program to handle the instructions per clock for that individual item. Where as Nvidia acts like the proverbial melting pot, and just takes it as it goes, sometimes ending shoving square blocks in round holes, thus having performance hiccups and sometimes out and out performance "deaths" as of late in their newest cards. Why are we hearing of more and more 7xxx series cards eating it? Simply because, the dump truck method to handling instructions is becoming obsolete VERY fast, with more and more shaders per clock, much higher resolutions and pixel output, the strain on precision rises with each new app that is released. Sadly for the guys that wish to stay in the Nvidia camp are losing ground once again, the lofty dominance that 6xxx series has given us is about to fall on its face again. ATI is doing what they did 3 years ago with the 9700 and 9800 cards. They cut back on pipes and pixel clocks, in favor of compatible and precise software instructions. With DirectX10 at the doorstep, who knows what new problems and issues will arise with the current formula for fast graphic processing? Only time will tell, but the ultimate question, will Nvidia realize too late? Will this turn into another FX-series face plant? Or will the Nvidia behemoth ride on, crushing everything in its path? Only time will tell.

I think developers could code games to take a better advantage of the x1900 extra pixel processors. Very possible IMO.

Well I just got Ghost Recon for my Xbox 360.
Ushally when a game is really good I get this wierd feeling in my torso as a sign of WOW, or amazement. Previous games that did this were Half-life (this is a big one), Half-life 2 (When I first played the first chapter), and WoW (Big one aswell). I had that feeling, in the begining sequence, the graphics are STUNNING, it's amazing!

Me and a couple of buddies picked up GRAW-PC today...

It's a good single player game but the problem is that the multiplayer end is incredibly buggy, especially GameSpy Arcade. Currently, there's no easy way (or hard way for that matter) to join up with friends in a Co-op game unless you use a third party VPN program such as Hamachi or BattleLAN. I bought the game primarily to play online and it's pretty unplayable at this point.

Maybe I'm missing something? Otherwise, just a heads-up.

Ish

Lol and it probably never will due to the coding or it will suffer severe on the fps so it would not be worth it.

Actually, the 360 does have it. Are you running it on a high def TV? I have it for 360, and the blue border is there. However, I've heard that on a regular TV, they disappear.

Anyways, the game looks beatiful on 360 :)

This game has the an AI that resembles Rainbow 6 Lockdown. Good graphics, but the AI is pathetic, especially team-mates.

On level 2, the stupid tank takes out 3 of my team mates, team mate just stood there and took the incoming rounds.

They should offer more control for your teammates as far as stealth, aggressive, or something makes them behave more cautiously.

So many times have I had my teammates play ginnie pig and run in the middle of the field to get plowed down.
