Hey,
Today i was helping my friend OC his 6800GS, the idle temps are like 41C and at the stock clocks after about 5 mins of ATI tool artifact test the core was hitting 70,71C...This is on stock clocks? Are these temps normal? he has the stock 6800GS cooler and stock thermal paste on the card.
Thanks

yea thats normal. i had my stock cooler it use to idel at 39 c n hit 70c but never had articfact, so i removed stock applied as5 that helped a bit, but it was still too hot so i put the zalman heatsink on and its alot better 32c idle 50c load, slap a new heatsink on it cause they just run to hot on stock cooler

The Zalman vf900 is a very low profile cooler...

Why would you buy two 6800gs when you could get a x1900xt or 7900gt for about that same price, and them do better than two GSs, and get better power consumption, less heat, etc?

Water cooling, expensive, though worth it. Plus you can always use it when you upgrade, just buy new water blocks! I love mine, no noise from my tower, except for the hard drive, if there was a way to have that silent!

well i thought two 6800 gs,s running @485 clock speed because they are 6800 gs xxx editions which were on ebay for £140.00 each i got twenty quid off coz i bought two was a better option for speed and financially, dont you reckon?

Hey fellas
i have a 6800gs, but i changed the stock chipset fan to a arctic silencer which cuts the heat down when over clocking, from 1000- 1200 and 425- 500 it ran steady at 42 degrees
and should i sell this card and buy a XFX 7600gt oc version:)
and if anyone in australia wantes a 68oo gs please feel free to enquire

When I had my GS i volt modded it and pushed it to about 570 or something, the highest i could go without VMOD was 505 for comparison, so i could see you hitting 600 easy with the 540 stock clocks. This was without water by the way.
