I was wondering what the hottest my 1.4 athlon can run before it dameges the chip.

welcome to the forums.

According to amd your chip can survive up to 95c. That's what amd considered the max temp.

But, in reality most people here will agree that anything over 50c is going to lessen your overclocking and stability.

Yes...your CPU can take up to 95C...for a short period of time. Can take up to about 70C for extended periods of time...see here (http://www.overclockers.com/tips506/) for an explaination of that.
