View Full Version : Water pump orientation
Does anyone know definitively whether the water pump has to sit in a specific plane? IE upright, per its mounting holes, or can it be mounted in any plane, to accomodate fitting it in a case?
Thanks

as far as i know pumps performances are not constricted by their orientation.

upside-down inline pumps can be real tricky to prime though.

it may depend on the type of pump though, also depending on the power of the pump, if it is low power it could be aided or slowed down by graverty

As ButcherUK said inline pumps can be hard to prime upside down. But I think that orientation will not have much effect on the systems we have been using for cooling due to the fact that we are fighting the head height and small tube diameter and these far outweigh the impact of the pump orientation.
But knowing you, everything counts :D
So I would think that you would get best performance by having it horizontal. Centrifugal pumps come in two types, the impeller, which is like a fan blowing water down the tube, and the centrifugal sling, which is more like a submerged pattle wheel
I think the pattle wheel will be most effected by orientation.
