View Full Version : Asus GeForce 2 MX 200 - Bad FPS in CS
Well before when I had CS with my GeForce 2 MX 400 Asus V7100 I would get FPS of 71 .. Always and now I would get 15-30.. It really shocked me.. It really impacted my performance in the game going through the smoke laggin me comp..
Do you know whats wrong here? I've set all video options to the max with all those smooth textures.
Worst of all to mention this is under 640x800
By the way running nVidia 21.88 Win XP DRIVERS

well an MX200 is a lot worse than the 400, many people have bought this card and said it was slower than the Voodoo3 that they used to use...
Damn..! I had a MX 400 and I believe I put some Artic Silver in the ram things and it stopped working I exchanged and it took WAY Too long so i had to get a hold of a new video card ASAP so they gave me this.. now I have to live with it.

An MX-200 sucks, really bad.
But not that bad.
HL(CS) is an old engine. It'll run just fine on your computer.
Check your video options to make sure your running OpenGL and 16-bit color.
(ps. that steady FPS of 71 you used to get was because the max fps default is set to 71...the engine physically maxes out at 99 FPS)

How do I set at 16 bit?
I've enabled OpenGL and others, flatten my graphics made it look nice like before and .. it only increased like 5fps :/
BTW I didn't overclock my card since the card I got the pins to my blorb won't fit since this card pins are WAY apart.. Aparantly it is one big heatsink.
By the way .. How much do you think overclocking would help? I will not overclock this card if I can't get 15-20 or more fps its just not worth it :/

.. But I would have thought the Asus cards would at least be at least decent rather than just a OEM GeForce 2 MX.

i say add a fan to the passive heatsink and your cooling needs for the mx200 are done, overclocking can get you anywhere from 5-20 fps, just depends on how good of an mx200 you have.....some of those mxes really oc nicely....
Should I add a 4x86 heatsink or something?

no, the mx200 doesnt put out enough heat to warrant that....
OK Here's what I've just done..
Taken out my blorb's fan..
Lapped my stock heatsink(TOOK 2 hours big piece)
Then stuck the blorb's fan on... :)
Ready to lock and LOAD!

What are your results after the overclock?

After some stablity test had to turn it down to 225/400..
IT gets 1416 3dmarks in 2001..
I believe I got 1700 with my old MX 400 also made by Asus..
Thanks alot guys..
Zuck Gou one more question how do you make sure your running 16 bit in CS?

If you never changed it, its most likely running at 16-bit.
But to check put -32bpp in the command line (or a shortcut to hl) and see if it slows it down. If it doesn't then your running in 32-bit which could be the culprit.
Edit: This expains it better than I did http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/halflife/
