here are my specs:
athlon thunderbird 800
Asus a7v
256 M Mosel 133

Current temp 43 degrees Celsius
when i have the case off
got a taisol cooler cgk 742 (i think)
no case fan
350 w psu
nothing is overclocked

When i try to overclock it either the temp goes too high or it freezes.

Please any suggestions to make it cooler or faster, both???

I have a 800 ATHLON TB on a KT7-RAID Mobo and i clocked mine to 1050 with no freezes.

I have no xtra cooling devices.

If u want to overclock ur CPU successfully i would suggest renmovibng the CPU and getting a pencil and bridging the L1's.

After this u should be able to up the multiplier in the bios of ur mobo.

As for ur temps they do seem ABIT :) high.

Also put some FANS in ur case. ur board should hpold for plus any that can rubn from the PSU.

I am getting some for my comp tommorrow!

I have my 800 running at 973 (7.0 X 139) on a KT7A-RAID
#1 is 43 your idle or full load temp.
#2 Raid-ua is right if you havent unlocked your CPU you wont have much luck O/Cing with the FSB. The KT133 Chipset doesnt like much over a 110 MHz FSB. You also dont have a 1/4 PCI divider on the southbridge which really sends your AGP and PCI bus speeds too high. You need to unlock the CPU by pencil tricking the L1 bridges (or use conductive paint e.g. defogger repair kit) then get into the manual and start messing with the multiplyer. An average o/c for that chip is around 950, 1050 is exceptional. Good luck!

For an 800 Athlon @ 1050 is exceptional.
lol im doing it with only standard HSF and no XTRA COOLING! :)
idle temp is 38 and full load is 48 im trying to get them down gonna buy some fans today.

Ithink by uppin the core volts i could get it to 1.1Gig.

It just stays black screen when loading Win XP on 11x10 multiplier. Is the core voltage the prob here? CPU not getting enough power?

What should i bump it to?

IMHO, any vcore over 1.95 is asking for trouble but there are those who go over 2v. Afterall it is an 800 so what's the worst that can happen? Even if you did burn up the CPU, it wont put you in the poorhouse to replace it. You have to by a 1.3 Ghz to replace it for $95 (or a 1.4 for $135), Boo Hoo.
If you flash the most recient BIOS before you fry it will support a 1.4. Here is a link to get the latest BIOS. (4A)

43C degree sounds about right, Unless you have a 7200rpm fan which can take the temp down to under 38C. My Tbird can overclock to 950MHz, default voltage and 1GHz at 1.85V. Temperature go as high as 47C with a 4900rpm fan.

Yes, unlock the L1 bridge first with a pencil, then you can change the cpu multiplier to 9X, 9.5X or even 10X if you're lucky and the jackpot is 1050Mhz which is highest for Tbird 800. Because the motherboard that you're using uses the KT133 and not KT133A, the FSB with not be stable if more than 5-10MHz Above 100MHz.

Nowis,
If you check the Overclockers.com CPU database you'll see the max anyone has reported is 1500 at 2.05 volts. The highest with a reasonable voltage is 1130 @ 1.82 volts.

I think I already mentioned the KT133 vs the KT133a Chipset and FSB overclocking 2 posts ago.

I'm not here to take your credit just share my opinion and to get him start it. There's nothing wrong with what I said. An unmodified motherboard can only use 1.85V and many Tbird 800 can go 1050MHz with air cooling. Only a few past it slightly and the rest use extreme cooling. I use 1050MHz because it was the average for the best Tbird 800 stepping reported from a review. Just sticking to basic that all.
