So this tower stopped booting for no reason...turned it off friday..won't start monday. Just nothing when I hit the on switch...I want to test if it's the power supply...it's an ATX 2.0 and the only tower around with one..isn't there a way to test the power supply with a staple or something to complete the circuit?

Yes to power on the PSU short the green and blackwire. This will power up the PSU but you will still need to verify all the voltages, buy, borrow, steal a digital multi meter and check the folowing voltages, colors. Red 5v, yellow 12v, orange 3.3v.

some PSUs need a minimum load to turn on as well. i usually try a stack of old hard drives as load, sometimes it actually makes stuff turn on.
