I desperately need to know the CORRECT AMD t-bird 1200mhz, frequencies. The multiple and the 133/? thing.. Its a 1200 cpu, but when I run it at anything over 900mhz it crashes. I recently put in a Axus MB. with 512 DDR mem. I dont think they like each other.

welcome to the forums,

I think your problem may be your chip, is it a 266DDR based chip or the old 200FSB version?

if the motherboard is ddr it should be back compatible.

its a asus a7a266, 266 fsb. it should run smooth with my amd 1.2 at at least 1200, without overclocking at all. but It crashes at 933mhz and up during gameplay?WTF

Heat. Look in the Bios and see what the temps are. Are you using thermal paste? Is the heatsink mounted correctly?

that doesn't make any sense,
your heatsink probably isn't mounted correctly.

Noob quote as follows, "whatsa heatsink, wheres it at, and how can I check if its installed correctly?"

your volcano2?
that thingie is called a heatsink (generic-type name for it)

check if its covering it well, if its down on it properly, not like slipping off or something, hard to explain, you'll know if its wrong if you see it

Your system is hot but it should still run at its intended speeds. I got the feeling you have a defective cpu if it is only running at safe mode (100mhz). Do you hear any bios beeps when you start the computer after putting the fsb to 133?

YEs I hear beeps from time to time, but it ran at 1200 fine before adding the asus a7a266 m.b. I appreciate all the help guys, Does my motherboard have to be configs to run with a amd cpu?

I don't the cpu is damaged maybe the motherboard is to blame?

Install another cpu to test it (either a friends or a shops). Then you will know for sure. CPU's damage very easily. It could have damaged when it was being changed over to the board you have now. My money is on a defective cpu. It is very unlikely that your motherboard killed your processer.

Abb, you are very right if your heatsink crushed or chipped the cpu slightly it could have mad it run in safe mode (100MHz)...
