I've had this problem now for probably over a month. I can't think of anything that I did that would have resulted in this, I just know that it suddenly stopped working. Any video (.avi, .asx, .mpg) that is embedded on a webpage will not stream. For example, I'm sure you've seen music videos, video clips, etc. all online before. Each time I try to play, it will load as if it were loading, and will then go to a blank screen with the word "Ready." appearing just below the play controls. See my attached image to see what I mean. (yes, after hitting the play button, still nothing)

It doesn't matter if it's IE, Firefox, Opera. I just ran a spyware, virus scan and still fixed nothing. Uninstalled unnecessary programs, and got new codecs. No luck. It doesn't matter what video it is, none seem to play. Any clues?

Nobody still? I'd really enjoy being able to watch streaming videos again :(

Try this: go into Windows Media Player, click tools -> options, under the Player tab make sure "Connect to the Internet" is checked as seen below

Try re-registering the msdxm.ocx file... Start | Run | Type regsvr32 msdxm.ocx, and click OK.

Hmm. I tried those both just now and ended with no prevail. I decided to just uninstall WMP and then try to re-install it, but when I went through my list I noticed that it wasn't there. I saw "Windows Media Connect" and tried to uninstall that, but it said that if I did, it could stop applications from working (including IE, Firefox, etc.) so I decided "hmmmm.....lets find an upgrade"

So I went to the microsoft site, validated my copy of windows, and I thought it was working because I saw it actually say "connecting, buffering, etc", but I closed the window in anticipation that it worked. I tried loading it again, and no luck. I still can't view anything.

UPDATE: I re-installed it again and now the videos are working. Let's see how long it lasts this time....

I've had the same problem before with videos not showing up. A lot with WMP10 so I try and keep 9 as long as I can.

Did you update your gfx drivers lately? If you did, that could be your problem, or if you didn't, try it :)

I did update my video card drivers, but I don't think it was at the same time. There is no audio or anything, so it's some sort of process failure. It was working again earleir after re-re-installing the software, but stopped working after a few minutes. It has to do something with that, I'm pretty sure, but how to fix it permanently? No clue. :(

maybe try completely uninstalling wmp and reinstall it again, start / control pannel / add remove progs / add remove windows compos / untick WMP

that is if you didnt do it like that before...
