Now you're going to have a hard time using dial-up.
I think it's an acceptable trade-off. Enjoy your broadband.

nice....i work for a WISP. I usually get about 128MB at work, so it sucks to go home and only get 1MB...lol. hope you enjoy your new connection. :D

Still on dial-up here at home. I was on broadband while at school so it kinda sucks going back to 56k, but it's not a huge deal. I don't do much on the net except read forums and news, so oh well.
Verizon is supposed to have DSL in the area by the end of the year. We'll see.
EDIT: Wow, just noticed this a year-old thread. LOL

Well in certain areas. urban areas are going to be latter because it is  PAIN:mad: for clearances/permissions/sign offs ETC to run that stuff underground.
ATM Verizon dsl only supports 3.0mbps, that is why i switched to cable @ 30mbps. I love how verizon dsl falsely advertises that they are faster than cable. When benchmarks show that cable is 5 or 10 times faster than dsl. They should get sued for false advertisement, or free internet =) Though i thought they are genius for having dsl @ 15 bucks a month, gets rid of people with dial up. i can't believe AOL is offering free service now..... they just refuse to leave the market......LOL

I get 1.3mb down / 300k up, don't even complain bud! My pings are very solid for this connection though, I don't ping any higher than 80 in the USA. I ping 18 / 20 ms to LA.

Are you sure that it's the ISP's fault?
You may be getting dismal speeds because of the telephone wiring in the house.

I don't know where people get ideas that cable is faster. I have both services and yes cable downloads faster but dsl uploads faster.

i hate you all, complaining about "only" 3mb connections. 8Mbit down, 384Kbs up has only just been released on ADSL1 here in Australia, and that was because of political issues. I can't get cable, and the best ive seen is like 9mbits down on cable too. Only a few limited exchanges here had ADSL2+ (somthing like 20 out of the thousands there are)
Well, at least we have it at all (but i wish they would realise the importance of UPLOADS (384 is the highest you can get)). Telco is all one company here (Telstra). Other ones exist but the infrastructure is all Telstra. Some say it a blessing, others say its not.
here is what i got this morning

my highest was like 17mb down and 1.5 mb up
