Hi ppl,

Over the last couple of days I've been trying to decide which of the three bellow I should get for an Athlon Tbird 1.2:
* Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+
* GlobalWIN WBK68
* Cooler Master E5-6I51

At the moment I think I'll get the GlobalWIN, since I sleep with the computer on and the Volcano from what I hear is too loud. People have been calling Cooler Master cheap so I'll stay away from it.

I might o/c the athlon a bit (1.3 - 1.4) but I'm more concerned about running it at a descent temp.

Could anyone who had/has experience with an Athlon 1.2 or higher and any of those coolers please comment on the temps, noise etc. Also to anyone who bought the GlobalWIN recently, do they still come with these dreaded clips?

And please don't recommend other coolers, that's the only ones I can buy (due to price & availability).

Thanks :)

the volcano 6cu is actually quiet and produces results in temp similar to the Glabal Win CAK38 (I use a CAK38, its louder)

The CAK uses a delta 38CFM which is a lot noisier!!

cooler masters don't cool well and I don't recomend them..

Go for the volcano 6cu+!!

I'm using the Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+ II that runs at 7000rpm and it is too loud!!

My wife has asked me to get a quieter one...

Welcome to the forums lord prism
The quietest thermaltake one is the volcano 6cu (no +) I built a computer for a friend and used that hsf works great and quiet!!

I would try a Millenium Glaciator II which are very good!!

What about the ThermalRight SK6?

I currently have the GlobalWin WBK 38 and it is rather shocking when you first power it on how much louder it is than any fan you've heard. I had an 800 Mhz Athlon previously and it had the retail AMD hs/fan, which was by no means loud. Then when I upgraded to the 1.4 and built my own system for the first time, the shop I bought my supplies at only had the OEM CPUs, so they just gave me the GW WBK 38. I didn't even know you had the option of buying your own hs/fan at that time. I turned on the system for the first time and it was crazy loud compared to my old system - and any system I've ever heard. But it's a good hs/fan. The clip on it is horrible. I have already broken one part off it (the clip where the screwdriver goes for positioning) and drilled my motherboard straining myself to clip it back on, slipping the screwdriver off, and smashing my mobo (no damage to date and now I'm much better with the clip, but it ain't easy to work with regardless).

After building my system and becoming a mod/cooling/overclocking fan, the noise of the fan is unimportant to me. I am all about performance.

I just bought the Thermalright SK6 for even better performance and am using the same delta fan that came with the GlobalWin.

Deal with the noise for performance and longer CPU life, especially if you are overclocking.

Hi, thanks for the Welcome.

How about the

ThermoEngine with a Thermaltake 60mm fan

or

Alpha PAL8045, with either the whisper fan or even the mid-speed Sunon?

Sorry, to jump in on your post but you asked a good question!

We need the best cooling with the lowest sound - is an all copper hs better?

Yes, All copper IS BETTER!
I would go with the SK6 and a not as noisy fan.

I have the Volcano and to reiterate a fact, YES it is a whole lot louder than most HSF. I can hear my comp whirring two rooms away. Copper is also. You just have to see how you want to balance out your cooling/ noise ratio.

Put your index finger tip on the CPU's core firmly and leave it there. Then power up your computer. Now you don't need any stinkin HSF! All that heat will just go though your body and raidiate on top of your head. Now that's some good thinking!!!:)

I dont think skin transfers heat well. :D

THANX YMAN!!!:D I'M GLAD TO BE HERE IN THE OC FORUMS! BUT I'M NOT NEW HERE. I JUST CHANGE MY USER NAME FROM SPEED_KING TO NFS BECAUSE I DIDN'T THINK THAT NAME WAS THAT GREAT.:(

First of all if you want to achieve high temps get a good aluminium case.

My Vcore is @ 1.85 No Artic Silver.
I got 120mm Blow Hole on the top of my Aluminium PC LIAN LIN 60 case its acts as an Exhaust fan, I got 2 fans on the front 8cm/80mm fans on the front @ full speed intake. I got 1 on the back as exhaust. 300 WAt 30 dollar PSU.
Kg7 RAID mobo/Pc2100 4dimms, DDR board, AIYAH-J CPu 1.4 266FSB. 256mb of Pc2100 CL2.5 256mb Atlas Precision.

135x12 = 1608, I can't go more due to cheap ram... But I've gotten 1620 stable.

Hi-

If you're not concerned about noise, I love my Alpha 8045 heatsink with a Delta 80mm fan....No clips, uses screws....This baby is not coming off the cpu by mistake...High quality copper plate against chip...My load temps in my sig are absolute max, with the cooler weather (cooler ambient), my cpu is usually running at around 39 C with 24 C system temp. The only downside is the other day I was talking on the telephone near it, and the person on the other end of the line asked me if I was vacuuming :D ....
