Top end cards from ATi seem to offer very little in the way of performance to dollar ratio :(

7900GT performs better in half of the games at stock clock speeds, but it also rarely ever sells at stock clock speeds.

some 7900gt's do come oced but the cheaper 7900gt's are stock. i guess it just a price standpoint. i havent looked at the price differences of the those two. It just comes down to how much faster for the $$ are you willing to spend vs the other one?

The card was just released today so it will be a few days before you start seeing forum member results.

From the ATI press release..

X1900GT (http://ir.ati.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=105421&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=852877&highlight=)

Saw one listing on Pricewatch but it was well over $400. This card seems interesting, I might have to go with a Crossfire setup instead of SLI.

The Inquirer said that a guy bought one of these from best buy somewhere and said that that card was actually labeled as a x1900gto...so the fact that it was even labeled gto might mean something in relation to getting this card unlocked. A x1900gt unlocked to a gto @ $300 looks like it will be the card to buy.

i thought that the gto-->gt was purely a name change...

Now gt unlocking to xt would be the goal and it would make it the best deal in america

I just kinda figured gt and gto were simliar products just less pipelines on a gt since the guy bought a x1900gt and it was labeled gto, and I thought gtos are better then gts..maybe someone else knows.

actually from what I have been reading... it looks like the x1900gto to be released in the future will be a lesser card and retail in the $230 range.

Really, I was going by the fact that I thoguht the x800gt and the x800gto were the exact same thing just the gto had more pipelines? Am I right?

You're right about the X800s, but it can all change with the new cards.

Anyways the card got beat by the 7900gt. By a good amount. Unless you can unlock it I doubt it'll be worth it, and if you can unlock it I still doubt it'll worth it.

I'm currently considering this care myself. One thing has REALLY interested me, but I can't remeber where I read it. I heard ATI may release a driver that enables Crossfire without the need of a master card and will operate over the PCI-epresss bus. Anyone else have an update on this?

Hrmf.. well i just checked the green label on my card.. it says X1900GT.. so maybe a misplaced sticker or the just change the name from GT to GTO halfway threw the production?

but i would love to sometime in the future be able to unlock my X1900GT to XT. atm im just thinkin on maybe to force a XT bios onto mine but im afraid that ill blow it up :S

The hkpc forum says it has 1.4ns RAM and has 12 pipes as opposed to 16 of the x1800xl. Let us see how this will clock.

From what I've seen, X1800XT > X1900GT
