way back when... i got into this overclocking thing briefly by picking up a abit bp6 with dual celeron overclocked to 533 each. for $300, i had the hot combo of the day. now i am moving to xp pro, which has a problem with the ide controller on that board. that's just the excuse i have been waiting for!
what's the hot overclocking dualie de jour? does it have the same price/performance that my current combo had? will it deal with xp pro? thanks!
Hi, welcome to our forums!
I've had some BP6 experience, and would think the VP6 (also an Abit board) would suit you best since it's Abit's next step on the dual board-chain.
Think the most popular overclocking combos have been either the P3 700 or P3 800 (both 100mhz bus speed variety and same S-spec, meaning both cC0 chips). For running at default speeds you mind as well get (2) P3 1GHZ chips, and if you're lucky you'll get cD0 chips that can handle some overclocking too...
The only issue with the P3 1GHZ is cost, still over $150 a piece and finding (2) for that price with a cD0 stepping only aggrivates your search... VP6 boards are coming down, around $130 now...
AMD is also becoming more cost effective and competitive on the dual board market, they're always an option.

I must agree with pinky being a former bp6er and a abit loyalist, get a vp6. There is better, but can migrate your old mem, cpu etc. to the new vp6. If your budget premits get an iwill mobo w/ddr it cost a lot more and be just faster in memory, not cpu
