with DX8.1 all of the features that the 8500 has been advertised to have will be usable...

Hope this helps

Quote from the ATI Radeon 8500 FAQ:

Q29: What is the difference between DX8.0 and DX8.1?

A29:
The principle difference between DX8.0 and DX8.1 is in the pixel shader and vertex shader specifications. DX8.1 pixel shaders provide more texture inputs, larger maximum program length, and unlimited texture addressing modes. Certain bugs found in DX8.0 have been fixed in DX8.1.

At least microsoft didnt screw ATI this time.

All that talk about the radeon being DX8 capable, and then they change DX.

I believe it would make a performance since Microsoft had gotten pre test cards for the ATI Raedon 8500 and had designed it for the newer cards to have full support with DX applications.
