Ok so has anyone here gone from a X1800XL to a X1900XT?

I was curious about the preformance improvements between these 2 cards. I do have quiet a big display and I can see its already starting to affect me in one way or another in gaming. But I was curious if anyone has switch from at least a similar card up to the big card.

Here is some of the games I run from time to time that more or less have FPS issues.

Oblivion
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare
FEAR
Tomb Raider Ledgends

Im sure theres a few more but can't think of them currently. I was just wondering to what people might say about it. I was going to wait for the next gen release but that might be still a wee bit off and with Vista getting pushed back DX10 card would only be worth getting when Vista hits IMO.

I do have a FS-V7 cooler on my XL currently don't know if that would be an effective cooler on the big X1900XT or not.

I can't speak on the cooler because I've never had one but from reviews I've seen it will suffice if you don't overclock too much.

I know Maxi upgraded from the the 1800XL to 1900XTX and my understanding is it was a dramatic upgrade.

I don't have the X1900 but for what its worth, it looks like it would be a decent upgrade, especially as you are running on a large display where the extra vRAM will help as well as the 48 pixel shaders.

Then the next question that arises is what one to get?

PowerColor $454.50

MSI $469.99 - $30 MIR

Unless going for the XTX has any distinct advantages?

I think the XTX has better memory that OCs a lot further but I'm not sure. I think I may not be worth it although I'm in the "OCing is so you can get the next version up for free" camp rather than the "higher than god intended 3DMarks" camp.

I'd only go with the XTX if you plan to become an active benchmarker. Otherwise the XT will do everything you need it to do. Between Newegg and Monarch you can get an XT right around $400 with a rebate.

Here is a good buy at Monarch and the HIS cards seem to be very good overclockers.

Ya I've been tossing around the idea noow for about a week or so with getting a X1900XT so figured it was time to do it expecially with those $50 rebates going on currently.

Guess my XL will be going up shortly if a friend doesn't want it.

Now I get to have all the nice fun issues people have with OCing and voltage changes :) Weee hehe.

I wish I could have afforded an X1900. Still, the X1800 was such a hige leap from what I had before that I'm still overwhelmed. I have to keep going back and playing oblivion just to remind myself how great it looks

Hope your new card is good and OCs well

Hehe, I have a 9800xt, so when I get my x1900xt I'll probably be crying (from shear joy). Unfortunately it'll still be several months before the upgrade (conroe aka "Core 2 Duo"). Hope you enjoy the new card deathman, please do let us know how much of a difference it is from the x1800xl.

Well i got all my bench scores from my XL down and know roughly what FPS i get in games at my current res that I run them at so I should beable to give decent feedback on the card.

Dum De dum... Still waiting for Monarch to process my information grrr.

The frist time I ordered something from them it was super quick (it was shipped the next day) and now 4 days later and still have yet to ship starting to bug me.

Yeah. I just ordered from them a couple weeks ago(mobo and cpu in sig).
It was my first order through them and it was pretty slow, compared to what I'm used to with Newegg. But they gave me a free thermaltake copper HSF that I'll probably mod and use for a future videocard.
But they ARE slow in my experience.

I am to hopefully do the same, however I will be going from a 9800SuckEdition.

my HIS x1900xt does 705/850 without breaking a sweat and nets me over 13k in 05 I can OC the card further but see no need since i will bottleneck it anyway...

when they first came out the xt could be had for $475 after rebate where the xtx was $50 more, if i was doinig it now I would go for xtx since now one can be had for $450, aside from xt being 625/725 and xtx being 650/775 the only other diff is on average the xtx oc's better, my xt is one of the better oc'ing xt's i think...

Well if I had to wait one more stinking day for it to ship Monarch would of gotten a call and I'd of switched to newegg and gotten then newer cooling system one and the XTX. But they finally shipped it today, 9 days after I ordered it they SHIP IT?!?! Thats also 7 days after they charged me and they had them in stock too. Thats horrible and I'll reconsider ever buying something there again.

Heck they couldn't even respond to my 2 e-mails I sent them asking what was going on and one is a week old.

Eeke, that's why I stay with the big retailers, Newegg and ZZF. 7 days is simply pathetic. I would have canceled the order after 3-4 days. The x1900 cards are well, a big step up from x1800 with 3 times the ROP shaders.

Well I gave it a little extra time since I just moved and my bank might not of updated my address right away. But after seeing that they charged my card on monday I was ****ed. Sent off a reply today and what ya know they ship it go figure, giving me a mail back within a few hours that was by my request.

I delt with them when I bought my Opty 170 and it was shipped out the same day. But oh well ZZF and Newegg will defaintly be my defaults once again.
