Hey all, i know i have read around alternatives to msconfig but for the life of me i cant recall the program, or thread i read it in.

basically i want something to "really" control my start up programs, things like adobe acrobat professioanl put things to start up that do not show up in msconfig so i can not disable them..

All help appreciated.

Autoruns is very good (advanced) and lists just about everything that is running.

I have used -- CodeStuf Starter (http://codestuff.tripod.com/)-- for the past few years. It is a great little utility that lets me manage my start-ups, current processes, and Services. As of today, the most recent version of this program is the 5.6.2.0 which incorperates the new Services menu. Also, you can check out this list --Here (http://lists.thedatalist.com/pages/System_Startup_Tools.htm)-- which will give you some more programs to choose from.

I've used Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) since I first stumbled on it. Basic, but it most definatly gets the job done (and is freaking tiny! great for toting to borked systems :))

Another vote for Sysinternal's Autorun. Don't forget services.msc too (PLEASE don't get into a black viper debate...please...).
