The Tony Hawk link doesnt work.
Your Tony Hawk link doesn't work, dude. You might wanna fix it. I'd be interested in reading what it's about.
A Star Wars game, eh? I guess all the fans will finally be able to wave their Lighsabers around the way they always hoped ;)
The controller looks like it will take some getting use to. But then again so will the name.
I don't care how you use the word "Wii" in a sentence. It just sounds stupid.

I want to play with my Wii. I don't know if I'll ever get tired of saying that.
I've never even heard of the "Wii". I guess that just means I'm out of the loop. :p

Ok. The Time article got me excited. I can't wait. This is a HANDS ON approach from a Reporter, and he said it /felt natural/. This is important. I can't wait.

New link added.....sorry about the Tony Hawk link. It's good, it's just that this was on Digg so the server has been flooded right now. It'll be back up later, I'm sure. You should see the facial expressions and body contortions on the guys playing THDJ...

Yeah, this concerns me too......especially if the bullet pass slips from your hand and hits your LCD....

I don't know about stealing the show. I'm putting my money on PS3 simply cause it looks like a truly next gen console and not a revision.

After reading NUMEROUS reports, I'm thinking Blue Ray=BetaMax. Yes it's better, but it's so much more expensive $1000 player vs $400 player for HD-DVD and they're not doing 480p and 1080i on 1 DVD but HD-DVD is, the cost of a HD-DVD is about $10 less as well. I think cost alone has doomed Blue-Ray.

Price for Wii will probably be announced tomorrow, analysts are expecting anywhere form $149-$249. Affordable IMO, doesn't require an HDTV to view it at its' best either.

The biggest problem with Wii will be games, cause they pretty much lost all the good dev with GameCube.
I'm anxious to see if they will show off any games at E3 and so far I have not seen anything in detail like with other consoles.
YES! THEY BROUGHT BACK THE N64 STYLE ZELDA!
Im gonna have to go with Red Steel as the game I am most looking forward to on the REVOLUTION (i refuse to call it Wii)

That is a heckuva lot better than $600 for the PS3 according to the other thread.

The Redsteel game looks very impressive, and so does Zelda as well.

I read in the inquirer that like a simple 25gb disc costs some $30. Like 1GB/dollar.
I'm ditching the whole thing and staying with my simple DVD's, which are like 4GB/dollar.

Stealing the show... Do I smell a fanboy?
Honestly I think we're in for a early 80's type abandonment of this crap. Sony doesnt give a rats ass about PS3. They just care about their blueray/betamax p1ssing contest. Nintendo has been digging their grave for a few years now. They need 3rd party support. Microsoft is basically just releasing computer games on the Xbox and filling the Next-Gen void.
The thing I like about Wii is that its not one of these stupid all in one media center poopers. What I hate about N is that no one develops for them and the stupid controller. They need to get Square, Namco, EA, and Konami back on and pressure them to release more games. Personally I'd like to see more Atlus games here too.

Wow, that really over-simplifies everything. I think the over simplification does justice to some issues and is way off on others. I mean, Sony doesn't care about one of its biggest revenue sources? But, the 360 does have a very symbiotic relationship with PC game devs/publishers and nintendo does need more 3rd party devs instead of a funky control scheme, although if they are lucky the control scheme may lead to more dev attention.
Who do you think will get more Square games this go around, Nintendo or MS considering neither got much action or none at all in MS's case, last gen?

I wouldn't say that they have stolen the show. Especially since it hasn't started. I am definitely excited about Wii though. It's the only console I'm currently thinking about buying.

Sony has already ripped off Nintendo's controller. Check the fourth paragraph down here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6149586.html
Hmm . . . Internal gyros that sense movement . . . where have I seen that before?
All it proves is that Nintendo leads, others follow.

There is a lot of truth in this. I'm hoping Nintendo can win back some 3rd parties and Sony's collosal blunder will drive most of theirs to the 360. I've read TONS of reports saying Sony didn't really try to hard on designing the gaming aspect of the PS3 and that they're using it to push Blue-Ray.. for shame Sony....for shame.... Hoefully the sheep.....errrr customers will see through this insidious plot.

If Nintendo does the price right, and gets the right kind of games, I could very well see this in serious competition with the XBOX 360.

I would not say Wii has stolen the show. I would put my money on Halo 3 stealing the show if anything does.Yeah because Halo 2 was such a big step forward  Dual weapons, ohhhh, that took about 12 lines of code. The 360 will be left in the dust IMO, Microsoft will always play second fiddle to Sony, Nintendo does their own thing and mostly caters to a younger audience.
I'd say the Metal Gear Solid trailer was a show stealer, it was intense, and I've never even played a game in the series. The COD3 trailer is also really sweet where the player smacks the Nazi in the face at the end-the gun butt is one of my favorite weapons in multiplayer.

Who said Halo 2 was a big step forward? Who said there needed to be a step forward? Halo was a great game to begin with. It did not need much altering for a sequel.
It is in my opinion that Xbox 360 will be more successful than Playstation 3. It is also quite logical to think so.
Here are my reasons why:
1. Xbox 360 is cheaper than PS3. Money talks. People complained about how expensive the $400 Xbox 360 was. How are people going to react when they have to pay $600 for a regular PS3 or $500 for a dumbed down version? Combine this with a not only possible, but probable drop in the price of the Xbox 360 in the near future.
2. Contrary to what Sony would have you believe, Xbox 360 is more powerful than PS3 in a gaming environment. Sony has done nothing but say how great cell is and all of that. They are correct. Cell is a nice architecture. However, Cell is not a nice architecture for games. A large amount of developers have stated that the PS3 CPU(One general purpose 3.2Ghz CPU and 7 specific proprietary processors) is not ideal. Most of them will use only the general purpose CPU and ignore the 7 specific processors, as they are both ineffective at running game code and hard to program for. Xbox 360 has 3 cores that each run at 3.2Ghz and are each capable of running two threads in parallel. Doing the math for you, that is a 6 thread capacity that developers can code for if they so wish. Now onto the GPU. The PS3 uses a G70 based gpu with performance that can not be much more than the 7800GTX. The Xbox 360 uses a gpu that is not even out yet on the PC. It will debut on the PC as R600 to compete with G80. R600 and G70 would be no contest. Now to speak about the Xbox 360 gpu itself. The gpu uses a unified pipeline architecture, with 48 of them to be exact. The big thing about this architecture is that these 48 pipelines can do either vertex processor work or pixel pipeline work. On a G70, you have 24 pixel pipelines and 8 vertex processors. That is set in stone and games have to revolve around it. On the Xbox 360, the developer can choose how many of the 48 renderers work as pixel pipelines or as vertex processors. Developers can bend the system to be able to pump out more geometry or more complex pixel shaders. Not only that, but those 48 renderers can be changed between pixel pipes and vertex pipes in real time, not just at game load. The Xbox 360 has 512MB of shared general purpose memory, while the PS3 has 256MB of video memory and 256MB of system memory. This locked memory setup means that developers will be forced to work with those limitations. On the Xbox 360, the developers themselves choose how much of the Xbox 360 memory goes to video, and how much goes to general system use and other uses. They alter the system for their game, not the other way around.
3. Xbox 360 has all of the advantages over PS3 that PS2 had over Xbox. Everyone is like: "oh wow, Xbox 360. Wow, that Gears of War looks great. I can't wait for Halo 3". PS2 had so much hype that it was rediculous. Xbox 360 also has hype. Perhaps the most important reason as to why the PS2 beat the Xbox was comming out a year earlier. This time, the Xbox 360 came out a year earlier. PS2 had a very bright future when speaking in terms of future games. Xbox 360 also has quite a nice lineup of games on the horizon and has loads of third party support.
4. Xbox 360 has Xbox Live. Sony is going to have a small gaming network, but it is not going to be anywhere near the quality Xbox Live. One of the biggest selling points for Xbox was the great online service. Millions play Xbox live. Millions know how good it is. Millions will understand that Xbox 360 continues this service.
5. Xbox 360 has the most resourceful company in the world to back it up. The Xbox was Microsoft's way of getting their feet wet in the console market. Xbox 360 is their way of getting to the top and staying there. Microsoft is going to throw as much money at the Xbox 360 as necessary to ensure its success.(Just as they threw all kinds of money at the Xbox to get it into the market)
Now why don't you tell me why you think PS3 will dominate Xbox 360?
boris_37
05-10-06, 02:26 PM
because microsoft never made any money off the xbox... in fact i think they said they lost 300million or something.
PS3 is obviously more popular. X-box depends upon halo and games like oblivion. One day FPS games will be less popular(as they are rehashes of the exact same thing) and the x-box will hardly be a contender. PS2 sold a lot more systems and games than xbox and never even had a big online community(in fact it sucked) and yet they were still better.
Now sony and nintendo are coming in with an online network and offering different and perhaps better things than the x-box.
so there you have it. x-box was popular for several games, and because they HAD their online service. i can't see them offering anything different than a more powerful system... which in my eyes doesn't garuntee success.

It has been 6 months and the 360 still doesn't have all that impressive a line-up for me to justify buying it. PS3 will have to have an jaw-dropping launch library to convince me to invest 600 into it.
Honestly, I don't think any of us can predict which console will come out on top in this iteration. I'm just going to root for my Wii. :p
Hmmm after looking over all three systems the past day or so, I think Wii has it for me. It doesn't look as good, but it looks FUN. And that's where it is at.
I plan on pick one up when they are available, and it will be the first console I have owned in ten years or more.

Ugh. I hate it when people say this, especially using it as a fact that "the 360 suxorz omg". We're talking about Microsoft, one of the richest companies in the world. They can definately afford to lose money, whereas Sony can't quite as much. So, please, don't bring this up. Ever.
While what you're saying has merit, what people saying about the Xbox also has merit. IF it where to stand on it's own, it would not be here.
