when i boot to 2k i get an explorer.exe error and then dr watson logs it and then it tries to start explorer.exe again and then i get an error and then...
yeah i think you get the picture. it just keeps doing it, so i can't do anything in 2k and with all my files an i am stuck booting to SE.
Any suggestions??
Is this with the system oc'd? Win2K runs well with overclocks, but the rig has to be STABLE! Completely, 110%. A pc that is stable in win9x may not be stable with 2k.
Of course, if its not overclocked thats not the problem!

it is overclocked and has been for about 3-4 months and is/was perfectly stable. Just happened
go back down a notch or two and see if that helps; you might even have to go back to stock speed ( I know, it hurts, but....!)
I've had similar problems with oc'd rigs, sporadically, so this MIGHT do it.
How are your temps by the way?

my temps are 20/25 at stock speed and when oc'ed it is 24/30 (yeah it is cold in my room) But i booted at stock and no go:(
Did you update the repair information when the system was all good? If so, you can toss the install cd in and try to repair the install. Actually you can try this anyway, but apps installed since the last repair update may have to be reinstalled to run correctly.
Do you have a burner? If you can boot into Win 98 I would suggest backing up everything and then do a clean format and then an install... Did you install anything that could have caused this problem?
u could try booting to a safe mode cmd line(F8), editing your regestryand turning off Dr. Watson
this could end your loop, however, why are u getting that, i would think something was done immediatly prior to your bad boots, a change/instal
if u get out of your loop. then look for your problem, but may just be watson

It seems that after about25 restarts on/offs windows has repaired itself. BUT, thanks to you all for your advice and help.
THANKS
actually u prob repaired it by cycling off and on the active desktop
