this is the adapter I plan on getting http://cgi.ebay.com/Laptop-2-5-to-3-5-IDE-hard-drive-adapter-4-5-s-h_W0QQitemZ6878949852QQcategoryZ74949QQrdZ1QQcmdZV iewItem

all I wanna know is is there any precautions I need to take? Any dangers doing so? will it just hookup as easily as a desktop hard drive? is that adapter fine? thanks.

Make sure that pin one is in the proper position, if not then you could blow the traces on the adapter or drive. The adapter should be fine for your use. Clear any HDD passwords before hooking it up. Desktop BIOS will not have a provision for entering the HDD password.

DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING ON THE 2.5" DRIVE

Just a warning, their top covers are *very* thin and you can push a dent in it with your finger (tried  ).
