on order now is my new system, let give you a quick run down so maybe someone could help me with the cooling for ..

Antec SX1030 (no fans)
Athlon palomino 1600+ (1.4Ghz)
Soyo SY-K7ADA
Maxtor 40GB 7200/ATA133
ATI Radeon 8500
512MB Micron PC2100 DDR

as far as cooling goes I am 'kinda' clueless, I ordered the Thermaltake DDR heat spreaders with vga heatsinks ...

I need 3 fans (80mm) for my case .. I was considering these Thermaltake ones that run at 2900 rpm (7 bucks a piece) but I dunno if they are any good

I plan to use artic silver 2 but I have no idea what do for a heat sink/fan for the cpu ..

could someone please suggest a product combo and place to order these items from

thanks .. n00b

Those probaly arnt BAD fans, but what i would recommend is that you mod your case to fit a couple of 120mm fans. They push alot of air at reasonable noise levels. Also, check www.allelectronics.com for fans, they have lots of great deals. Like Panaflo 120mm fans with fan guards for 6.50. Anywhere else that would be over 15.00.(only problem is they dont have connectors on them)

If you dont want to mod your case i would go with a couple of 80mm panaflows allelectronics has them for around 4.00 (again with no connectors).

Also, if you go with the 80mm's you really should cut out the metal guards the case probably has over the holes, they block so much air, especial if ther just a collection of little holes.

One more thing, read the cooling articles on the front page, lots of good info on hole cutting and that sort of thing.

I feel, AS2 is the only thing right in that post. Avoid Thermalfake, nearly all their products (With the exception of the latest Volcano HSF) are crap.

Millenium Glaciator II or Thermalright SK-6 should be just fine for that Palomino.

As for case fans, Sunon and Panflo are high grade fans, they both have high output models and low noise models.

The Maxtor drive is fine by itself, if you really feel the need, you can stop by Cyberguys.com and pick up an HDD cooler.

The stock fan and sinks on the ATI Radeon will do just fine.

The Micron DDR ram is also fine by itself. The RAMsinks for them are merely for dress-up purposes, at least at this point.

Places you can hit:

problem is that there are no stock sinks on the vid card ..

also, what I liked about the thermaltake fans was that they had both the 3 and 4 pin connector/adapters and I am not exactly sure how the set up will be right now

the thermalright sk-s is like 33 dollars, that a bit more than I wanted to spend

Well either way with those fans, you want the 4-pin. It is generally considered a no-no to plug fans into your mobo, especially case fans.

Looking at the Radeon card, if there are no stock sinks, that means it is designed to run without them. Upon further inspection, there are those little silver things between each of the front memory chips and larger silver things at the end of each memory chip pair on the front, which would defeat the purpose of putting Ramsinks on that card, at least the front. For the front, you would need special made sinks. You can try to put some sinks on the back of the card. I still feel that won't add much to cooling the card though.

ok, but I still dunno what fans of heatsink to get or where to get them from

I am not intrested in case mods .. I just want the cooling to be effective

If you can fit them use 120mm YS-Tech. As far as Heatsinks go, go for the Thermalright SK-6, I`m using a 60mm DELTA 7200rpm Screamer, Its LOAD but keeps things cool. But I`ve found that if you cool the system well, cooling the chip will be ALOT easier.:burn:
