Just upgraded from 9800pro to X800gto. I thought it would fix my fps problem but it didnt, i still get the exact same fps i did when i had my old 9800pro. What could be the problem?

The fps is around 60-70 and then it drops down to 30-20

I've tryed every command in the console and it doesnt help.

My specs:
p4 3ghz
1gb ddr400 ram
x800gto

if thats not it, it's your monitor...

How do you enter the command console?

My fps_max is 300. I have an ACER AL1912 19" LCD monitor. Games like FEAR, COD2, GRAW, and regular CS run perfectly fine.

Is Vsync on? What's your monitor's refresh rate?

Try turning off Vsync.

75hz like most lcds, and vsync isn't on, i've tryed it on, still the same.

How do you enter the command console?
Use the "tilde" key

Looks like this ~

Hint: Its directly left from your "1" key (not numpad)

when does the FPS drop? Also what settings/resolution are you running at?

im running at 1024x768 and it usually drops during gun fights. My processor is kinda old, a p4 3ghz with HT socket 478.

a 3ghz p4 shouldnt bottleneck CSS. i play it at 70+ fps with everything on highest, 1280x1024 with a a64 3200 and 9800NP.

I can pull up the command console, but can't find the command to show the FPS.

cl_showfps 1

OR

net_graph 3

i don't prefer netgraph.

Are you playing on all high settings? try turning reflections and stuff down... Also are you running HDR maps like de_dust when this happens? HDR can eat up a lot of FPS, turn that off too.

Also make sure you have the latest catalyst drivers.

amd 64 3200+ is better than his p4 3.0 for gaming

I get 200+ fps on my 2.0ghz amd venice and my 128mb nvidia 6600gt.

all you have to do is configure the game.

do some reasearch on autoexec files (search autoexec.cfg) and make sure you read about source and not 1.6 files.

any computer can run this game pretty well. i used to hold 50-60fps on my 1.8ghz amd thoroughbred and nvidia fx5200.
