Ok my brother got his hands on a 933 PIII a few months ago... it was an Intel 933 PIII... Im not real sure but I think that it has been chipped... But Ive never seen one first hand before and I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to test it? Other than putting it into a mobo... we have one that it went into but it began giving him problems, and eventually stopped working...
he is thinking that it is the bios, Im thinking its the chip... We - correction - I have done everything that I can come up with. New ram - no PCI/AGP cards on... different ram in each slot, all nothing. It starts and refuses to show a post screen. I have removed everything from the power - HDD - Floppy - Rom... everything... So Im down to begging for some ideas... gotta love this place... Anywho... any suggestions on how to test it without access to a mobo? So I can discount his idea of it being the bios? Which Im not totally, but I think it is the CPU...

Thanks ahead of time... Lates

The only way to check if the CPU is functioning is to place it on the mobo. I haven't seen any other way beside that from my experience. I used to test CPU's to see if it's working by installing CPU, RAM, video card, and PSU connected to the mobo. That's it.. nothing else is necessary.

It is probably his chip that's been chipped leading to dead CPU. it's very unlikely the cause of BIOS doing this. It's the CPU.
Takes very little physical damage to the CPU core to make it not work.
