I have a gigabyte 6600GT and i realize it won't work for all the "next gen" games coming out soon, would it be worth it to buy another and use them in SLI, or to sell it and buy something a little better? For those of you who have gone SLI, what kind of performance increase would I see?

Definetly not, a single 7600GT will beat a SLi 6600GT setup and it costs only $150.

yes but if he has an sli board, and a 6600GT he can always find a used 6600GT for under $50 :)
thats if he doesnt want to go out and spend $150+ on a new card

Difficult to say. Now let's say if you plan on buying a more powerful single card instead of going SLI. If you have enough cash I'd say buy a 7900 GT or something to that effect. If however, you do not have much to spend on the new card then I would simply just buy the second 6600 GT.

SLI is really only feasible when you either:
A. can get a second card for CHEAP
or
B. Have lots of cash and are buying 2 of the best cards, ie 2x7900GTX or 2xX1900XTX
otherwise it's probably best to get 1 GOOD card, over 2 "meh" cards in SLI, so if you could get a 6600GT for say $50 or less, then yes, it's worth it, but buying the 6600GT retail is not worth it, sell the 6600GT you have now and look into the 7600GT or 7900GT.
Like the others mentioned, if you can find a 6600GT for a good price then go for that but if you have the money to buy something a lot better than go that route.

If I do go SLI, does it have to be the exact same card I have now, or can I get any 6600GT?

You can match it up with any other 6600gt

1 card for the price of 2x lower end cards will perform better. :)

how much better is a 7600GT compared to 2 6600GT's in SLI? I have about $150 max I could spend on a new card, however I would like to spend as little as possible. If I can't find another cheap 6600GT I'll probably just wait till DX10 comes out and hope DX9 cards drop in price.

The 7600GS's are about $100, the 7600GT's about $160 If you do have at least $100, why not get one of them and have good performance on the newest games, then when you can afford it, get another and have an SLI setup that'll last you quite a while!

also...DX9 will be around for a long time, I'll bet about 3 years. Unless you just have to have the latest greatest card, you'll be fine. The world's ending in 2012 anyway.

I belive the 7600GT will compare to 2 6600GTs in SLI as my 7900GT compares to my friends 2 6800Xts in SLI. My single 7900GT smokes his two 6800s in everything.
