View Full Version : Seti, i need help
well, for the most part seti has been a blast for me and it gives me a reason to keep my computer on 24/7
now i have a 950 t-bird overclocked to 1110mhz (1.1ghz) and it used to take me around 7-8 hours to complete a work unit. this was when i was running 448mb sdram pc133.
i took out the sdram and poped in a stick of 256DDR and now seti take friggin 16-21 hours to complete a work unit WTF!!!!.
i might format my hdd but thats gonna be a pain. is there anyway to tweak seti for that it can finish the work unit like before thankx

That seems a little bit unusual. Are you tweaking your memory settings or are you letting the BIOS select the best memory timings?
You need to check your memory modules. You might be mixing CAS 2 and CAS 2.5 memories. Try checking them with a memory program (Let me check if I can recall where you can download one) and try using WCPCEdit to tweak your memory settings.
It wouldn't hurt if you phisically check them one might be PC1600 and the other PC2100.

Are you running the screensaver? If so make sure that the box in you screensaver setting is checked to goto blackscreen. Or just go here (http://www.ocsetiteam.com/Instr1.htm) and set up the command line client.
Just to make sure- the time it takes to complete a wu can vary widely- so make sure you get a few results before getting nervous!
That said, I don't know!
Have you done benches (SiSoft Sandra, or similar) on both memory sticks?
BIOS settings can really be a pain!
no, its runs 24/7. and i hit already 100. but damn man from 8 hours to 20 :-0 sucks

Have you shutted down all other programs that are running in the background?
It happened to me once. My work PC went from 12-13 h per WU to 25-75!!!!! h per WU. The only solution I reached was to reformat, reinstall all to return to the old times.
shazbot. i don't really want to format my pc lol. but i am going to go XP soon enough so it might come to that. can you give me the names of some links to that Sisoft benchmarking program and i will post my scores up.
Yo can get at that link!SiSoft Sandra (http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/)
