I just read that intel is planning to introduce a new architecture ever 2 years, but I have a nagging question. Are these new architectures going to require new sockets? We got 775 now, and I was thinking of saving up to get a conroe setup sometime early next year, but if 2007 is the last gasp of the 775s, I'd rather wait a year and get a new socket.

Has anyone heard any rumors or news concerning future intel sockets?

There's always going to be a new socket around the corner. Conroe is looking very promising, so I'd wait until some people get them in their hands and look at some reviews and wait for the price to drop a little bit, then get a Conroe.

even if they keep the 775 socket, there is no guarantee that you won't have to buy a new MOBO anyways. look at todays top end boards. none of them support conroe, even though they are 775.

I think there's already enough that's been said. As of now you don't really need to be worried about any socket you're using as your chipset will be out of date way before hand anyway.

There is no way to control the way technology moves forward...the minute a comp items falls into your hands, its pretty much under the Endagnered species list then becomes extinct in a mere 3-5mths :(
