i needed to how stable my newly oced computer, so is there any way to prove that my CPU is not making any floating point errors?
In addition, i often found that my computer would't start after i shut it down for a period time. help!!

Apparently, the best way to not get floating point errors is to buy an AMD chip.........:)

(Sorry Intel lovers, but you had that one coming!)

Here's how you check to make sure your computer's floating-point operations are correct at OCd speeds.

1) Join SETI@Home.... Trust me... This IS nesscary
2) Bring your comp down to stock speed (or underclock if you want...)
3) Get SETI to download a WU, and not let it upload it again when finished. Also, take work_unit.sah and copy it to the desktop.
4) Take the result file (should be Result.sah) and copy it to your desktop.
5) Start your OC
6) Delete all the .sah files in SETI's directory (except for user)info.sah, and version.sah) and copy the work_unit.sah from the desktop into the SETI folder. Run SETI.
7) Once again, don't let it upload the work unit. Use a file compare utility to make sure the result file is exactly the same as the result file you saved from earlier.
8) If they are diffrent, your OC is causing floating point errors. Bring your OC down a notch. If not, repeat from step 5.

Hope it wasn't too confusing.... It would be easier to explain to someone who runs SETI.... And if you like SETI, you can join Overclockers.com's SETI team!!

Prime 95- the torture test is made specifically to detect floating point errors, if you generate an error it will tell you right away. It is much easier than the SETI@ Home method, and possibly more accurate, since even a non overclocked computer can generate floating point errors (especially when using low quality memory, etc.). When you are free of errors, join the SETI team;)

Go to http://www.google.com/

in the search area type in "Download CPUBurn"

CPUBurn is a program that puts way more stress on the computer than Prime 95 or Seti..

My seti temps are

32 load

my cpu burn are 35-36
