Wll before i new much about pc's and the importance of a good psu i went out and bought pretty much the cheapest thing i can find..which was a 550w Qtec piece of ****.......now about 6 months later its making a strange whirring sound, its probably just the fan but i figuered its tie to get rid of it anyways..so basically i am looking for a new psu for under $100 or about £50...if anyone could reccomend something..i would like it to be atleast 500w and able to hold steady for an o/c.....
thanks:beer:
I don't know what the prices are like in England, but three PSU in that range stateside are the Fortron 500 watt Bluestorm, the OCZ 520 watt Powerstream and the Sparkle 550 watt FSP550-60PLG. Any of the three will fill the bill, but the last two are single rail models. They are a bit more expensive, but better suited for overclocking.

Strange you guys in the states dont mention seasonic in your list of psu manufacturers..I would definately recommend the seasonic http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/search_getprod.php?masterid=16851089&search=seasonic+600
or go for an enemax....5-600watt.

Seasonic is a great PSU, but the one in your link is two times his price range. As for the enermax line, they are just about all dual rail these days, but they are also decent PSU's.

I just ordered the Ultra ULT31849 X-Finity 600W Blue from Zipzoomfly for 79.99 bucks. Now they have it for 69.99 after 20 MIR.
You might want to look at the Silverstone ST56ZF too.

Ok its getting to the point where all these names are being mentioned and i dont know whats the difference between them all and if there are any...what are they...or are they all just pretty much of a muchness?
These PSUs we have been listing you are all great units, you cant go wrong with any of them. I would go for the one that you could get the best deal on.

Propably cause most seasonics have a dual +12v. When all you really need is a strong single. I guess most everyone now sees the dual as a lateral sidestep. But for that Presscott it doesn't really matter, but if you plan on upgrading to anything below the new Core 2 duo's checkout the strong singles. I ran my pressy on that dual storm fine though.

basically you want a PSU with high amps. A good PSU usually has 28-30amps in the 12v rail. as well as high amps in the other rails. there is many more factors that go in to it as well. i would suggest reading some of the stickys and googleing some benchmark sites for PSU.

only £8 over....and theyre 500w
i stronly recomend overclockers.co.uk. ive bought many items from them and it has always come next day
I have the enermax 460 watt psu, i dont remember off hand but i think the 12v and 5v currents were like 30A 12v and 28A 5v. Could be wrong though Ill check when I get home.
