View Full Version : Can't set voltage above 1.425

Hi, I just got my X1900XTX, and so far its a great card, but I have one slight problem. If I try setting the voltage above 1.425 I just get a black screen and have to reboot. I also noticed that my monitor flickers a lot after I reboot, until I turn the monitor off and then on again. Has anybody heard of anything like this? I have the two services disabled. I tried reinstalling drivers, using overclocker, but I get the same result no matter what. My PSU is an OCZ PowerStream 520W.

TIA

Turn your fan up to 100% using either atitool or some other overclocking program and see if that helps.

I did that, I get 42C idle temps, but I still can't go beyond 1.425 (which if I understand correctly is the stock 3d voltage)

what drivers are you using?

I was using 6.3, and I tried the 6.5 beta to see if it would make a difference, but it didn't.

(BTW when I put TIA at the end of my post, I meant "Thanks in Advance" and not as a signature lol)

so you set the core voltage to 1.425..... what clocks are you trying to run?

Well at 1.425 pretty much anything above 680 core craps out.

beta 6.5 may be you're problem. 6.4 caused alot of issues with ATIT. Maybe try 6.3. I personally have gotten the best scores with 6.2.

Can you overclock using CCC overdrive? That will let you know if it's a driver issue or the card is just not a good overclocker. CCC should max out at 690/800. You don't have to adjust any voltages. In fact you have to re-enable the services for this work. If your card can't do max clocks in CCC then you have a weak card.

Well with Overdrive I do remember getting 690/800, I didn't try overdrive ever since I switched to 6.5. But why can't I get the voltage above 1.425? It happens even when I use 6.3. I can understand that the card is bad at overclocking, but why would that prevent me from raising my voltage past 1.425?

Could be a few reasons..... perhaps the heatsink isn't seated proporly. Maybe the TIM is too thick. Maybe the mosfet heatsink isn't making good contact. I'd be content with Overdrive unless you want to do some serious troubleshooting or perhaps even RMA.

Well I did reseat the heatsink after doing that, and my temps only dropped. Based on the height of the mosfet heatsink I"m a little afraid to touch them. With ATiT I can get 680/860 which gets me 13k in 05, so I guess (for now) I'll stick with that. I considered RMA, but I don't think they'd let me RMA it for not being able to use one of the OCing features.
