I am at work -- but I plan to install it tonight or tomorrow.

A week 42 'K'.

JCviggen over at Hard Forums got a 1800+ 'K' to 1.9 ghz on plain water. Hopefully this chip will get there as well. It seems that the 'K' stepping may be even better than they 'Y' stepping. I sure hope this guy is an O/C superstar.

I'll keep you all informed.

Update: Its been cranking on Prime 95 at 1.84 ghz (153 FSB X 12) -- which I should be satisfied with, but I am not. Its currently running at 2.15 Vcore (but under the load of Prime it drops to 2.06 Vcore). Temps are good -- 44c under full load (28c on NB, and 23c ambient). I water cool -- so I am not really worried about the temps even at these high voltages. At 1.84 ghz -- it breezed through 3dMark2k1. Here is the score -- 8341 -- vid card at default speed (http://gamershq.madonion.com/compare2k1.shtml?1983437).

It boots into windows at 154 and 155 -- but hangs when I try to run 3dMark2k1 -- maybe after a little burn in it will perform better.

Well the good news is that 1.84 ghz seems rock stable -- it has been running prime for over 10 hours now and no rounding errors or lock-ups. I left it running and am at work now -- we will see if it can go a whole day.

I really think the chip has more in it. Like I said it loaded windows at 1.85 (154 FSB) and 1.86 (155 FSB) -- but locked up when I tried to load strenuous apps. To me, that is a classic sign of the chip saying "Hey I'll do this work but you gotta feed me -- more juice!!"

Unfortunately, my 8K7A+ is not able to keep the juice flowing at a constant 2.15 (at idle its fine -- but it drops to 2.05 or less under stress). JCViggen had the same problem with his 8K7A+ and found that the KG7 w/ Vcore mod performed far better (probably due to the three-phase power supply on the board). My 5v rail is fine -- never drops lower thant 5.05v -- I did the 5v pot mod.

Anyway -- I think I will probably keep this chip, and maybe see about investing in a KT266a board (I hear good things -- and some bad things -- about the Epox 8KHA+, but I really want to see what the Abit KR7 will do before I decide anything).

I am hoping to eventually get this guy stablized at 1.9 ghz. Any input you can offer will be appreciated.

Welcome skrill. Let us know how it overclocks and don't forget to add it to the database on the front page.

I haven't really tried overclocking, since I'm going to resist unlocking the multiplier(i NEED to keep this chip safe! it's retail!). Only fsb for me...I think the problem with XPs has been getting them juice, since most new mobos only put out 1.85 max :/

i really dont think that should be an issue as they are made to run at lower voltages correct - or are my facts backwards

They use the same default vcore as the t-bird 1.75v but when overclocking raising the vcore to 2.0+ may get you a higher overclock if you can keep the cpu cool.

Update on O/C -- see above.
