View Full Version : Faster downloads by using 2 modems instead of 1
I have heard that if you use 2 modems you can download faster. I always thought this required 2 separate phone lines, however one person I know told me you can do it even with one phone line. Can someone explain this to me, is it possible to increase my download speeds this way? I have a 14.4 ISA modem lying around, so if I put it in my computer in adition to the 56k pci modem it already has, then I should get speeds of 7 or 8 k/sec, no? Also, do I need any special software, and can I use even more than 2 modems, I have parts from 3 486 systems here, so there are at least 3 14.4 isa modems there. Is it possible to use 4 modems? I'm assuming no. Anyways, can someone explain this to me?

sorry never heard of it
i know you can use it with two phonelines ( on two sperate acounts) so you can download more at the same time
or some isp support shotgun modems witch lets you do like what your talking about but still with only 2 lines
i hope its true becuase ill go out and get like 3 56k modems

my friend has 2 phone lines and he joins 2 56k at night when no 1 uses the other line.. but i don't think it works with only 1 phone line.. if there is LET ME KNOW.. i have 2 56k modems doing nothing and would rather use 3 then 1! even 2 would be nice..
Yes, 2 separate phone lines are definitely required. You can enable modem bonding in Win98SE or ME. You also have to have a provider that allows multiple logins under the same ID (or 2 different ID's or providers).

this is easier and cheaper than a second phone line (http://www.speedbit.com/)
Download Accelerator Plus
With cable I've seen d/ls as fast as 750k/sec.

Download Accelerator plus increases d/l speed by a factor of THREE at a minimum. Does'nt matter whether your on dialup or cable.

It Sounds Nice Unfortunately It don't work!!
Those modem tweakers don't speed up dialups, and this Download Accelerator was no exception. I don't notice any increase at all.

Oh well...I tried....actually I've never tried any of the tweaks with dialup, only with cable. I'm spoiled now. I'll never be able to go back to dialup.

Yeah it's like television, once you're hooked you can't get the monkey off your back. But why would you want to? He looks so happy there, playing and laughing on your back there. :) As for the tweak stuff I use some highly recommended tweak stuff specifically designed for my hardware and software setup, after my full reinstall my system is working properly again.

I used DAP Plus before and it sucked i still downloaded at my usual slow 6 kbs woohoo. not! i have tried various of those stupid tweaking programs for dialup and i found they are all bs.
Just my opinion and experience, if they work for you use them by all means.

As overclockers we are in the constant search for more speed, and if we can't get it one way we'll get it another!
