View Full Version : What is "EPS" in power supplies?
Hi, I've been searching for info about EPS in power supplies but I can't seem to find much. So far, I've seen that they're usually for workstation and server setups. Is this so and when else is it necessary to have such a unit?
Thanks,

Among other things, it means it has the 8-pin 12V plug for the motherboard. The 8-pin is meant for dual CPU setups. Many EPS12V-ready PSU's like the OCZ Powerstream come with two 12v 4-pin headers that can be combined into the 8-pin.
It's not necessary for 95% of motherboards but it's nice to have since some single CPU consumer-level motherboards such as the DFI Expert (I think) have the 8-pin.
