Hello guys/gals, I am building a new computer. I want to build the one that Tom's Hardware Guilde built using the Pentium D 805 2.66 GHz CPU. Please tell me if these other componets will work along with with CPU. My goal is to get it to 4.1 GHZ with watercooling. Thanks!

You want a power supply with a signal 12v line around 30amps or so.

something like this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103464

Welcome!

There are a few things to think about when OCing the 805, It's a power hungry beast! Not only do we need to feed it stable juice but we need to dissipate the waist. Either of which are not going to be cheap. To feed her I personally recommend the Silverstone Zeus 560w (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817163111) although I've seen very good results with the OCZ 520w PowerStream (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817711002). Now that we are giving it a all you can eat buffet it will need to be cooled off so you don't have a supernova growing in your room. The best way to go about this is watercooling, however if you can put up with some case noise and higher speed fans it can run cool (well Smithfeild version cool). The Scythe Ninja (http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/Scythe-Ninja-Plus-6-Heatpipe-CPU-Cooler-SCNJ-1000P-p-16426.html) from what I read is in the top of it's class in performance. Everything else you picked out it top notch and will allow your little 805 to reach high clocks with a little luck as well. Although I must also suggest the 512Mb X1800XT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102697), It's about at par with the 7900GT in the 256mb class but I've seen slightly better results with the 512mb card, and it's cheaper to boot.

Thanks for the feedback so far, I think I will get a better PSU, I currently have that Smart power one and was just wondering if it can still be used.

As far as cooling goes, I won't have any issues there, I got an Innovatek setup, just need a new water block for the pentium. I switched over from AMD ><

I'll check out that 512, although the 7900gt is already bought and on it's way.

* checked out that card, and my brother is on his second RMA for it. I've also have had bad experience with Sapphire, I think I'll stick with the 7900gt and eventually get another for SLI.

Anyone else got any ideas for the other componets? Is there better MB that will allow me to overclock the processor better?

i would consider the aw8-max from abit. its only $119 and should oc that 133fsb 805 just as good.

neither the board you had listed or the aw8-max will run a conroe, so i would try to save some money here.

Sweet I'll look into that board, yea this computer wont be upgraded. I just wanted to see if I can build a 4GHz PC ><. I plan on building a very nice rig later on seperate from this one. This computer is more for fun/hobby and it's cheap to do.

Will the Ram I have selected work with this project? I read something on the Tom's Hardware Guide about DDR 800 Ram, when I OC my CPU, will it also OC the ram to DDR 800?

You would likely need to use a divider (Considering how big that mulit is)
