definately still a beta....and not very usable yet....mine crashes frequently....and it doesn't auto-update....(600 seconds is really long time if u ask me) so u have to press the button if u want quicker stats

the top menu is very awkward...as are the settings....personally i prefer simplicity to big boxy graphics and green/red check boxes

but with all that aside im certainly glad someone has undertaken a monitor for the new client....!!!

Move the slider over and it will autoupdate every 10 seconds or any time inbetween 10 and 600.

As far as crashing, I can't help you there :). I have it running at home and at work. I haven't had any problems with it but seems to have some limitations when adding too many machines to monitor.

I don't know if yall know. If you right click the icon in the tray it hides fold monitor. Why don't you post a message here at the yahoo group for it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foldmonitor
It will help make the monitor better. Fold on!!!

Since it hasn't progressed much further, I doubt it's of any use to me to upgrade, because 4.1.7-exe crashes every time I close it. Running w2k, no need to reboot :D

The crash on exit is due to the perl2exe perl intepreter in the compiled exe. It's not FoldMonitor. Seems the compiled version doesn't like it and complains when the rug gets ripped out from under Tk on closing. That's not me. Perl and PerlTk are supoosed to do their own cleanup on exit and works fine with the non-compiled version.

As for the reboot after it errors...not needed. It's just saying there were errors on exit. If this non-problem is a problem then run the uncompiled version. Also as noted on the download page the exe is a test version.

As for limitations on adding clients that aren't mapped, if you can open the config in a text editor you can add clients using:

client_dir="//machine/c/program files/fah2"
client_description="machine"

The GUI it's gone now anyways and being replaced with a whole new look.

Thanks Den we appreciate all the hard work your doing on this.

I'm currently using the test version with two clients and have had no problems.

Thanks again.

the aoa-forum is in gif format and is 350x40 w/256 bit color didn't check the other, but I'm guessing their all the same...could eb wrong of course. got it working and it crashes when i shut it down as well, but it doesn't remain resident so it doesn't bother me one bit. Although it doesn't seem to be tracking my other computer's progress as well as it does my main.

I believe he is talking about making sure the clocks on both computers are synchronized to the same time.

Thanks Den. When do you think the new ver. with the new look will come out?

Since the program relies on the local systems time and file timestamps on remote machines you need to have your machines system clocks in sync with one another (at least close). This is usually done with an NTP client. This software runs locally and retrieves the correct time from a remote server and adjusts the local clock
accordingly.

I have all my local machine sync with ntp.nasa.gov and they do this every so often. Because of this all my machines have the same time.

FoldMontior is based on time. It takes the local system time and compares it to files on remote machines when using it as a multi machine monitor. So if the clocks are syncd then the calculated times will be correct.

You really don't need to go crazy and read about it. The programs are usually very easy to set up and once they are going that's it. They take care of the rest by contacting the remote time server, get the time and comparing it to your system clock and changing the time if needed. Sometimes the time changed is very small like so

"offset 0.004461 sec"

Pretty fine adjustment. :)
You don't really need to be that picky. You could always just sync them every once and awhile. Close is ok, syncd is perfect.

Here is a list of software http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~ntp/software/index.html

Here is a FAQ if your interested

I just added this post as a text file in the FoldMonitor release so others will see it.

I'm torture testing the new stuff. I have fixed a few things I've found and i'm trying everything out trying to break it.

I'm done adding stuff so it's just getting a fine tune here and there.

Hey for some reason I can't get it to start-up now...I used the atomic98 sync(which seems kind of cool btw) And now I can't test out if it worked since the program refuses, seemingly, to even start up. So I tried removing it and reinstalling it and still no go. Thinking about rebooting to see if that may clear it up.

Thank's for the Info Den, As far as having to reboot I sometimes have to, the sys. will lock upon shutting folder mon. down. Minor problem, wish I could leave the box running 24/7 But I can't, V 5.0 looks sweet, Man thats one great effort on your part, Kudos to ya and thanks again.

The new version is out.

http://users.neosmart.com/hruzaden/folding/screenshots/foldmonitor-01.jpg

Read about it here on the list which should be viewable without an account
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foldmonitor/message/27/

Feel free to join the list. You can set your options to read messages there instead of getting email. It's probably the best place to ask a question or report a problem.

Systray support has been removed because I tracked it down to be the cause of the errors on exit with the compiled version.

I'm hoping you stopped the client for awhile or did something to make the frame time that long
