--it should be noted, i'm getting random bluescreens (gaming, surfing, transferring files across the network), not sure why..nothing is overclocked, i didnt touch a single setting--

system:
930 D
Abit AW8-Max -all the latest updates installed from abit website
2 gigs PQI DDR2 667 mem (in slot 1 and 3..per manual)
radeon x1800xt
XP Pro svc pack 2 --edit
liteon cd/dvd burner
western digital 250 gig SATA hd
enermax EG465P-VE PSU (460watt..suggested by you guys)
sycthe ninja HSF..with fan attached.
Aspire case.. plenty of fans (top, rear off of cpu, bottom, side duct) plenty of airflow.

issue #1:
Uguru doesn't show anything on the monitor. When i set up the board the manual shows a picture of the uguru connection header and says "reserved for connection the ABIT uguru clock". I never connected anything to that, but the manual never says to and i dont think i have anything that goes there?

on to the settings.. or lack thereof

if you smart guys need any other shots, let me know.

so.. i want ot make sure i have this system setup as best as possible.. i was planning on overclocking (hence the cooler/psu/case). If you folks could.. could u tell me what settings to best use for stability and then for oc'ing..much appreciated.

edit 2-
I have been getting bluescreens EVERY single time i start up a movie file.
as soon as a movie file starts to play.. crash.
mpg/avi doesnt matter.
i was able to play World of Warcraft for about 2 minutes before it bluescreened.. same error.
"stop 0x0000007f 0x00000008"
which seems to be a generic hardware/mem/mobo error.
i swapped out 1 stick of mem, tried different slots.. different slot combos of dual.. doesnt make a difference.
i do not have any other hardware to swap out with :(

i was using the latest ATI drivers.. since changed to a previous version (8.205.0.0) .. still no luck.

What are your temps like?

Just a random though, do you happen to have a live liunx distro laying around?

Could be a MS driver issue

Have you tried updateing the drivers from the OEM sites for your hardware?

temps around 35'ish.. no load.. cant even get anything going to stress the machine.

i have tried to OEM drivers.. no dice.

since im not sure one what you have what set at. Go in and manually set the dram voltage as per you SS its as 1.8v now if its the pqi ram im thinking of. It need 2v or 2.2v for that speed. also go and manually set cpu voltage to 1.325v or slighty higher @1.35v. after you have raised the Dram voltage set the timings to 4-4-4-12.
is this newly built? did you do a fresh install of xp pro?

*edit*
im positive now that the blue screens is caused by the ram not having enough voltage.
use this link to find the ram and plz post which ones you picked up.

RAM is here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141017

yes, newly built system, XP pro fresh install.

i changed the timing to 4-4-4-12
i upped the RAM voltage to 2.0 and 2.2
i upped the cpu voltage to 1.32 and up

no matter what i try.. when i play any kind of video file it bluescreens. about to test World of Warcraft. --bluescreened.

I have taken the machine apart and rebuilt it.. to make sure everything is seated right. still bluescreens anytime i play a game or a video.
let me ask a question:
with the mobo and psu i have.. how many "power" connectors should be plugged in?
i have 3 possible power connectors to plug in..
the long ATX power cable (ATXPWR1) that doesnt quite fit the mobo -bottom 4 pins dont connect, which the manual says it shouldnt.
then the ATXPWR2 cable.. 4 pins.
then theres a third cable that does fit under ATXPWR1.. to fill the bottom 4 pins.

the enermax manual and the mobo manual dont state clearly which should be plugged in.

If you read the stickys they say to plug in all the 12V's

Do you have a PCI GFX to test with?

Houdy

I don't have a PCI vid card to test it with.
i have since reinstalled XP Pro, i can get videos to play now, but if i start up a game, i crash.

any other thoughts or items people want me to check or post info/take screenies of?

are there any vid card settings in my bios i might need to adjust?
i'm about to RMA this damn card and grab a 7900GT and see if that works.

If the problem really is with your video card (and if its not that will be a big waste of time and the restocking fee) would it not make sence to get a cheap (possibly used) PCI video card to test it out with?
Settings with the Video card might be off

dont touch any 7900gt till stock get cleared. there are extra voltage regs needed on cards that were left off the first batch of cards. there is a thread over at evga.com with a user showing his old fked up card and the new "fixed" there are about 6 more regs that needed to be added.
Ok so change the timings to 5-5-5-14 with 2.2v . As far as i remember blues screens dont happen because of a bad video card. I have had a few bad ones either the game doesnt run(constan black screen) or i get some error message in windows. Im not saying green is wrong just in my "computer fixing" i have never had a video card cause a bluescreen.
if you are on another computer go download memtest86 and run that. it will test your memeroy to see if it is causeing the problems.
yea like green said see if you can test your rig with a pci vid card.

Do you have a spare psu? if so i might suggest using the second one to just power you video card. as i just had a thought that the psu you have may not be enough for the P-D and 1800xtx. I was reading a thread where a CrossFire system with a P-D. Both heavily oced killed a psu, i cant honstaly remember if it was Guantam here or Fishy. I do know it was a heafty psu that i cant afford to buy.

His psu was rated for 33A but he did get an ATI card.. I wouldnt think a single card would really stress the PSU but testing the 12V rail under load to see if it droops would be a VERY good idea.

from what i remember reading the new x1900xtx pull about 5-8amps more then a 7900gt. i might have that kind low but i just got off work and cant find the post on xs. that forum is just way to busy.

I would try diff memory, bluescreens usually are mem related.
Hope u get it worked out.

Are you still running the ram at 2.2? I have the same ram and it doesn't like above 2.1v. Anyway...

While I'm glad you found what the problem is possibly, I wouldn't be 100% sure. I remember back when I had my BH5 ram, it would come back with a hundred errors in memtest if I pushed it too hard, yet windows would still be fine. I could bench in 3d games all day long. So, one set of errors after running memtest all night may not be your problem unfortunately. I'll wait to see how the new stuff does. HOPEFULLY, it was your problem.

i tried the memory at 2.0 and 2.2v .. no difference. bluescreened, errored.. no change.
every time i played a game it errored out no matter the voltage.
