I just realized that with almost all my DL's nowadays, they start out at ~200 kbps, but after 30 seconds, drop to a consistant 30kbps. has anyone else had this experience?

Ouch! That's painfully slow for a cable ISP. No lie. You might think about calling them and raising(polite) hell. Or seriously consider jumping ship.

I'd phone and complain. That isn't right.

Average for me is about 200kps on downloads. and upwards of 350 from a good server.

yea i've experiened this b4 and called up my cable company. To my dismay they told me they actually cap it at 38!! :( So u probably should call em up and ask em what the cap is if there is one. :D

From my experience cabe tweaks don't work and are just a bunch of bull. It's like saying you can make your 28.8 modem go at 33.6, with out the hardware support there's very little software can do unless it's done on both ends.

You might also want to look at the quality of your coax cable in your house. My buddy works for a cable company and we redid the line to my computer with their high end cable, the stuff they put on the telephone poles and it increased my speed by about 30% to 40% He says that in the summer we'll dig up the cable they laid in the ground from the box to my house and replace it with this and there will be less than 1% signal loss.

Drop Amps from Radio Shack also improve your signal, which improves speed.

you mean you can hook up AMPs and it will improve cable speed?

Ive never heard of this....where do you put the amps? and what kind do you get from radio shack?

http://www.speedguide.net/ has lots of different tweaks you can try

one night I spend 1 hour just restarting my computer and testing cable tweaks
I found a sweet spot and it made my speed very stable

OK, well I think I just ruled out capping, on my ISP end anyway. No, I diddn't call em, I DLed teh Q3Team Arena Demo in 3 minutes flat. Must be server capping. God I love broadband.
