i though came into my head today and i just had to ask this question
using a phase change setup and a peliter.
would it be possible, to mount the peltier on the cpu ( a very high watt peltier) power it with a 2nd psu, then cool the hotside of the peltier with a modified phase change setup????
or would you get better cooling results with just the phase change .

i think it would be better on its own, because it is a bit like stacking peltiers, not much point and a water cooling and pelter would be about the same

well i figured, its not really like stacking peltiers, b/c you dont have to cool the phase change, it does that on its own,
instead of water cooling the peltier, or air cooling it, you would cool the hotside of the pelt with the phase change. so the pelt draws the heat from the cpu, then the phase change just cools the hotside of the pelt.
im not really sure how this would work though.
The TEC would just get in the way of the phase change, they (phase change) operate very well without any help. The cool thing about TECs is they have a wide range of operating voltage, have no moving parts and can be made in many different sizes/shapes. It's more a matter of ease to use.
If you use just phase change, the best you can get is -15F/-26C (the boiling point of the refrigerant) if you use a TEC too, you can get much lower than that..
I personally don't recommend doing it this way though. Condensation would be a nightmare to control.

I agree that you could go below -26C with a two stage system, but thats pretty frosty (-26C) and it's a bunch of hardware thats going to eat a lot of watts. For me, I have to think how far I can go without dimming the lights when I turn my system on. But if you have the hardware go for it ! -50C is not out of reach if done correctly.

peltiers get much less efficient as the hot side temp drops below 20C, just a thought :)
You are right about that, but -50C is not unreal. I have reached lower that -100C at work with multi-staged TECs. But I didnt have to pump much heat.
