Hi there :-]

I need a little advice.. I have an IBM 240x which I'm not trying to overclock, although a speed kick would be nice! I just guessed if anyone might know the implications of working outside the stated specs it would be you fellas! To this end my question..

I just found a 20v psu with the right size/polarity plug for my thinkpad & I'm wondering what the implications of using said 20v PSU might be, given that the original thinkpad PSU is only rated at 16v.

Would it be possible or advisable to use this PC to power my thinkpad while it is switched on, or maybe just charge the battery while it's off? What sort of things might pop / overheat / degrade if I tried this?

Cheers :-)

PS: Ayone know where I can get > 256Mb of SDRAM in a PCMCIA or miniPCI form factor? The 240x can only take 192Mb so I like to run a RAM swap file via the PCMCIA or miniPCI bridges. I can find tonnes of flash memory devices but these are no good for swap as they degrade too quickly :-/

I wouldn't try it, it could really screw with the notebook's internal circuitry. Either, everything will run overvolted, or the power circuitry will try to compensate for it and be overworked.
