View Full Version : Thermal Paste vs Tape.

I bought some new chip heatsinks both for my graphic card and memmory dimms and I was wonder what is the recommended way to attach them ?

Depends on how likely you are to remove them in the future. The tape doesn't transfer heat anywhere near as well as a thermal epoxy, but the thermal epoxy is a lot more permanent. So if you're going extreme, and the permanent thing isn't a problem, then I'd go with Arctic Silver Epoxy or even some Arctic Silver II and 4 drops of superglue.

You can always mix AS Adhesive & ASII Thermal Compound, 1:1, to stick the ram sinks on & you can remove them in the future. I used metal epoxy with ASII & the results are great. I don't think superglue on the corners & ASII in the center do very well 'cause you need some pressure to get it to transfer the heat properly. The sprung push pins that came with the BOrb did not give enough pressurre so I used epoxy there too.
