Hi,

I'm finally getting sick and tired of lugging around a great huge computer to and from University, although i don't really want/need a laptop. So I thought i might look into a microATX based system. Unfortunately I've found that most are mid to low end boards and i cant seem to find any high end boards. Just wondering if anyone knew of any higher end microATX boards i could look at (ie $200 range).

Also I'm gonna probably go Intel, and for sure ATI, if it helps narrow your recommendations.

I have an Asus a8n-vm csm.

It is a socket 939.

Includes SATA2, 5.1 sound, Geforce 6 6150 onboard video.

The video is awful for 3d - (Can barely play quake 2 at higher resolutions) but it's fast for 2d and does great tvout/deinterlacing

Cost me 90 bucks canadian.

Overclocking options are limited (ie awful, you can only change the FSB), but coupled with a 90nm opteron, I was able to boot and function at 240 fsb

what! quake 2? are you sure? I have seen one (a biostar with a 6100 or 6150, i can't remember which) comfortably playing UT2004 at 1024x768 with most of the fx turned on, have you got old drivers or a dodgy bios or something?

I was running Windows X64, so that may have had something to do with it, but the drivers were the latest ones.

It was a 6150. Quake2 and was barely adequate at 1024. Sin and Half-Life, were unplayable at anything above 800x600, and Anachronox was ever worse. UT2004 was smooth at 640x480 with everything maxed. Anything higher got disproportionately slow, even with stuff turned off.

It's the reason I bought a Geforce 6600gt.

I am reluctant to blame it on X64, though I'm sure it had a part in it.

I doubt the Intels will OC at all.

That ECS is a hybrid DDR/DDR2 board.

I'm thinking about an E6400 & the Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard myself. The onboard video will make it cheap to build and use. I can add a better card later.

DFI RS482, if you want to consider it "High End".

See sig for specs. It is really, really, touchy, but does the trick.
